I have been very sick and haven't been online. Last time I was on was a month ago. My name is Joyce Shaughnessy. I have written a two books so far about WWII in the Philippines (death march, internment camps, Japanese cruelty, etc.). The last I believe to be the best and it is Blessed Are the Merciful, Our Forgotten Soldiers. I live in Texas in the United States, but I would love to go to the Philippines someday. I have literally devoured about thirty non-fiction books about the subject. My other book has the Philippines only in the last half of the book and that was when I got hooked on the terrible things that happened to your people and ours over there. It is called A Healing Place, which I believed, for the soldier walking the Death March meant that his healing place was in the power of prayer. It was all he had. Then I found out that a lot of our nurses were on Corregidor, so I wrote Blessed Are the Merciful and included both the men and the internment camps where the women were kept. I'm certain that most of you already know this but the Japanese killed by cruelty 12,500 men on the 65 mile Death March because they surrendered. They starved everyone, Filipinos included. Then I discovered The Unsurrendered. These people saved thousands of lives by refusing to surrender and hiding out. I read in another book that (non-fiction) that a woman said when she saw a Filipino man's large smile as he walked toward her that she felt all men should be Filipino. Anyway, The Unsurrendered is in progress as we speak (another of my books). Thank you for listening. I enjoy your group, although I obviously don't speak Tagalog. I hope everyone there is healthy and happy. Thank you, Joyce Shaughnessy www.blessedarethemerciful.net
@ Thank you Joyce Shaughnessy your books will be noted for my reading. My friends recommended to me The Blessed Are the Merciful, Our Forgotten Soldiers.
hello everone! My name is Iristelle. Iris for short. I'm 20 yrs. old and a pharmacy student. I'm new here... just joined the group today actually and I'm glad I did! XD
I love reading books since I was a kid and back when I was still in the Philippines, tagalog romance pocketbooks were my favorites as well as horror books. I also like reading documentaries, and right now I mostly read YA books (mostly about romance..haha) I'm also a big reader of manga and Japanese light novels which I read on bakatsuki website.
Angus wrote: "Hi Iristelle, welcome to the group. Where are you now? Studying abroad? :)"thanks! glad to be part of it :D
