[General] Introduce Yourself!
Cherry Ann wrote: "(To all the beautiful words we will never speak.)"Aww, lurve it Cherry! Welcome! :)
hey!! im new bie!! can i join this group!! cuz !! really love to read!! books!! thanks im a filipino
hi, i'm reuel. i grew up in the Philippines (21 years to be exact) and now just migrated here in US. i'm currently reviewing for my nclex exam to practice my profession. i recently joined goodreads so that i can post some of my book reviews in facebok profile. but now i always check my goodreads account and see other book reviews before i borrow/buy it. well, ang story ko. i started reading books during high school. yung time na yun sobrang addicted ako sa harry potter series (2006 and hindi pa lumalabas yung 5th installment nya). sa sobrang addict ko ni-research ko pa yung mga details and spoilers sa net before lumabas yung book. even this addiction was written in our junior memorabilia that best describes me.
then, my friend in high school also influenced me on reading greek myths. required kasi nung 4th year high school namin magbasa ng classics like some works of edgar allan poe, homer's iliad and odyssey, and kinabisado namin yung mga greek gods and goddesses. nung una parang tedious sya kasi forced ng teacher pero nung binigyan ako ng friend ko nang adaptation ng greek myth sa book (phone home, persephone -- myth-o-mania) sobrang nagustuhan ko sya. so naturally, i'm super addicted to PJ series.
other books that i've collected and now naiwan sa bookshelf ko sa manila.
a series of unfortunate event by lemony snicket (yup, kinolekta ko lahat ng 13 books nya. hardbound at napakamahal pero worth it kasi gustong gusto ko yung lahat ng nangyayari sa Baudelaire orphans. kahit ngayon na hindi ko na sya nababasa kabisado ko pa rin yung mga details ng books)
LOTR by JRR Tolkien (mas nagustuhan ko yung movie kaysa nung binasa ko yung book)
mitch albom (favorite: tuesdays with morrie) and paulo coelho (favorite: the alchemist) books.
at marami pa. those books that i've mentioned above are the most memorable ones.
i've recently read the hunger games trilogy (wahhh!! can't wait for the movie) and A Game of Thrones (meron nang adaptation into tv series). currently reading City of Bones (boring!!), Unwind (kung into kayo sa post apocalyptic books!!). i'm also addicted to the walking dead series (The Walking Dead, Vol. 1: Days Gone Bye - best comic series and now meron ding adapatation sa tv series, sobrang nagustuhan ko to kasi ang ganda ng development ng characters and twisted ang story!!)
i'm glad to join this group. kung nung una palang siguro, nadiscover ko na tong goodreads and groups na to sasama ako sa meetings niyo. well, hopefully i can meet you all in the near future.
Hello and Welcome Reuel! Phew!~ ang haba ng introduction me, hehe. Hope you'll enjoy your stay here in TFG-GR.

Hi Arthur! People who love reading are always welcome!Hi Reuel! Naku, sino na tagapag-alaga ng books mo na naiwan sa Pinas?
Hi Isobel! Goodreads is really nice. And cool!
Hi Cristopher! Once you gather a handful of TFG friends, you'll be spending more time here than at FB.
Ayban wrote: "Hello and Welcome Reuel! Phew!~ ang haba ng introduction me, hehe. Hope you'll enjoy your stay here in TFG-GR."ayban, thanks!! kala ko kasi dapat mahaba intro. nakita ko yung sa iba. anyways, nice meeting you all.
Maria wrote: "Reuel, i did not find City of Bones boring at all."
maria, i don't know. nung simula medyo nahook ako tapos nung kinalaunan, wala nang development. medyo magulo pa story line. hehehe. pero may mga part din na nagustuhan ko. :)
Bennard wrote: "Reuel, a fello fan of walking dead!"
bennard, nakakapagbasa ka nung comic book series?? sobrang ganda ng story. hindi ko alam kung paano mashi-share sayo to kasi wala akong e-copy. let me know kung gusto mo ng updates.
Angus wrote: "Hi Reuel! Naku, sino na tagapag-alaga ng books mo na naiwan sa Pinas?"
angus, yung dalawa kong ate. pero siguro kukunin ko din sya ng paunti unti. ambigat kasi nun eh. :D
Reuel, yep, nababasa ko yung comics at up to date naman ako. At sobrang superior nung comics sa tv show although maganda din yung tv show. Hehe. Exciting nga kung paano nila gagawin ung prison storyline sa tv show. Yun yung the best na part eh.

Maria wrote: "Hello newbies!Reuel, i did not find City of Bones boring at all.
Hi Isobel, nice name. :)"
--totally agree. in fact its quite addictive, i mean the series.
Angus wrote: "Reuel: So you're saying magtatagal ka sa US?"yup angus, kailangan maghanap ng trabaho dito para makabili pa ng maraming books. hehehe!! :)
Bennard wrote: "Reuel, yep, nababasa ko yung comics at up to date naman ako. At sobrang superior nung comics sa tv show although maganda din yung tv show. Hehe. Exciting nga kung paano nila gagawin ung prison stor..."
wahhh, yup yun din yung arc na pinakahinihintay ko. sabi nung creators yung prison arc yata sa season 3 ipapalabas. michonne at si governor yung dalawang character na pinakahihintay ko. hindi ko alam kung papaano nila gagawin yung scene na yun. by saying up to date ka sa comics, maybe we can share our views every issues(monthly)/TPB(every 6mos). sobrang addicted lang talaga ako sa series, wala akong makapagkwentuhan. kung sino ring interested sa inyo sa the walking dead series, feel free to join. :)
Cristopher: Yes. FB grates on my nerves. Sometimes. Well not FB itself but some people who don't have anything to do than post mindless updates every hour. I'm glad I'm not on Twitter, haha.Reuel: Baka naman tipong signed first editions yung mga hinahanap mong books! Kakailanganin mo nga ng maraming trabaho. :D
I am a newbie here fellow Filipinos... good site it is! I will enjoy my exploration now that I am in this group. Cheers! :)
Hi Arnel, welcome to the group. There are a some Hemingway and Murakami fans here. I'm sure you'll get along with them. :)
KD: PSHT! Dapat tame ka sa thread na ito, baka madala ang newbies.Arnel: Don't mind men with dementia. :D
Di pa nya rin nabasa lahat.Ako nabasa ko na:
1) Kafka on the Shore
2) The Wind Up Bird Chronicle
3) after the quake
4) Sputnik Sweetheart
5) After the Dark
6) Hardboiled Wonderland and the End of the World
7) What We Talk About When We Talk About Running
8) Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman
My next is supposed to be Norwegian but not in the mood yet.
Arnel: The most entertaining is KafkaThe most well-written is Wind Up
The best structure is Hardboiled
The most emotional is Sputnik
The most ridiculous is Running
The quickest to read is After Dark
The best overall is Blind Willow
I just did not get after the quake
IHMO. :)
Nananawa na ako kay Murakami. That's what I am trying to say. Tas mahal.
Arnel wrote: "Hindi ko pa pala nababasa 1Q84. Pero may copy nako. Nasa gf ko pa, siya muna bumabasa."*grins* hello, everyone! *smiles*
yep, nasakin pa 1Q84 ni Arnel... soooo. Enjoy mo muna Drown, pre. ;)
edit.... edit... introduction thread nga pala.. ^_^
hi! i'm ila. i'm a graduating student, finishing my courses in education... i LOVE Harry Potter. i love him so much i capitalize his initials but i leave the Is and every other letter that should be capitalized not in caps. errr. yep. *giggles*
Arnel invited me to join GR, then this awesome group of cool, book lovers... *wink wink*
add me here on GR for chitchat about books or whatever comes to mind... :)
thanks! *curtsies*
Did someone mention Murakami? Fan? Uhm, that's why my name is here (raises hand, aah both hands with glee)I haven't read the Rat trilogy but I found PDF copies of the Pinball and Hear the Wind Sing.
Hope to meet you soon Arnel, and seriously talk about Murakami all day long! And since you liked NW, have you watched the movie version?
Hey Ila, are you a murakami fan too?
LS, I agree with Emir, you may want to start with sputnik sweetheart if you want to be strict and start with a novel by him, but you may want to try his collection of short stories, you can have your daily dose of Murakami's, it would be fun!
Angus wrote: "Cristopher: Yes. FB grates on my nerves. Sometimes. Well not FB itself but some people who don't have anything to do than post mindless updates every hour. I'm glad I'm not on Twitter, haha.Reuel..."
Lol. Alright, as in it grates on your nerves huh?? hmm
I think Norwegian Wood is Murakami's weakest work so far since it does not really subscribe into Murakami's post-modernist sensibilities. His strongest (for me) is Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World. Still I am a big Murakami fan.:)
tapos mabaliw sa plays ni Pirandello (not to mention his bizarre if not absurd concept of life [changing, indefinite, thus illusory] and form [fix, definite, thus real])... am now reading CHERI (and THE LAST OF CHERI) by Colette...
Po: Let's nominate a Murakami book for May 2012 read and let's campaign so there will be an F2F featuring Murakami!
Arnel: I just finished Blood Meridian over the weekend. It was an intense reading, but I prefer The Road.
hi, Ranee! :) i think i'm becoming a Murakami fan... it's my first time reading something he wrote. :D 1Q48 is a good start for me... ^____^hello there LS, thanks! :)1Q84 is a page turner, if not for all the distractions lately, i won't be able to put it down. i wouldn't want to read it without giving it my full attention. ;)
Ila: That's quite typical of Murakami. Usually, ang magiging favorite mo ay ang una mong foray sa works nya. Yong una or pangalawa siguro. Then ganun na ng ganun. Yong element na nagustuhan mo naroon na lagi sa lahat halos ng works nya. In short, sana wag kang manawa. 8 na ang nabasa ko sa kanya at unlike Ranee, pinahinga ko na muna.
i see... ^__^ Arnel told me something to that effect din some time ago..."sana wag kang manawa" --sana nga.. we'll see how many books of his i get to read bago ko manawa kay Murakami.. :D
LS wrote: to-read-ASAP books.ang dami kong ganyan. kaso soon won't come soon enough. hahahaha! ^__^ yes, really. :) but then again, i don't know much about Murakami so i can't say how good 1Q84 is compared to his other books.. pero tunay, maganda sya so far. :D

1Q84 is the first (of many, i hope) Murakami book i got my hands on. so, yeah, wala parin talaga ko gano alam sa kanya. ^__^
