Hello everyone! I am rIgil and i am new here(again). Not much of a reader with regards to literature in the past but now i am developing a my love for it. This is also because i am craving to learn new things apart from my studies. Right now i am focusing on the works on Philippine history. Which i am taking a peek at from time to time. I hope to learn more about books worth reading since i know book lovers are here. Hehehe.

Hello everyone! Just re-joined goodreads and this group. I'm a returnee and is now under a new handle.I have a very diverse choice of books. I jump from one genre to another genre. But lately I'm starting to lose interest in reading chick-lits and YA genre, except when I see something interesting in those book section.
Hi Chicbee! First re-joiner. Sorry, if I deleted and blocked your account. Forgive me for any inconvenienced I caused you. Thanks for introducing yourself and hope you can be active this time. You are invited to join the the forthcoming group activities:
1) First F2F (face-to-face) book group discussion on Jan 28 1:00-5:00 p.m. at Baang's Coffee along Tomas Morato. We will talk about George Orwell's "1984".
2) First Outreach Program. Our Valentine's Event for 2012. Visit to a foundation for street children called "Virlanie" in Makati. This will be on February 18 1:00-5:00 p.m.
Please visit the threads to know the details. :) We need to as many as possible members to join to make these two first events a success. Donations for the 2nd are welcome too.
K.D - You deleted and blocked my account? I don't think you did. I personally deleted my old account, so don't feel bad. :DYeah, I wasn't that active before and I somehow felt out-of-place hahahaha. So, let me start a clean slate this time. I hope so.
I saw the events, but they are all on Saturdays. I'm afraid my schedule would not permit me. I hope to join some other time. :)
There is a clamor that's beginning to gain grounds to move the Virlanie visit to the following day: Feb 19th and it will be a Sunday. Will you be able to attend if we do that?
Okay. So, you are four now: Charles, Sheryl, Ace and you. If you are more than the total attendees, I'm willing to move it to Sunday. How about the others?
We need to communicate this within the week to Virlanie.
Angela: Hurray for Austen, though I haven't read her yet, hehehe.Rigil: That's an impressive undertaking! It's cool to read Philippine-related books.
Chicbee: We hope the second time is better.
Welcome everyone! :D
Angela: yay Wendelin Van Draanen! I still have to read her other books, but I love, love, love Flipped. :)
Tina wrote: "Angela: yay Wendelin Van Draanen! I still have to read her other books, but I love, love, love Flipped. :)"oh flipped :) napanood mo n yung movie?
Hi I'm Joseph, 19, from Manila, studying at Polytechnic University of the Philippines.I've read books before (when I wasn't a formal book reader back then, 2006 I guess?). Not sure, but I guess the first book I've read was The Da Vinci Code *the movie just came out that time*. Out of, maybe arrogance, I chose it for a book report for my third year high school English. It took ages for me to finish that particular book, and relied on internet reviews for my book report *LOL*. I had copies of the first four Bob Ong books *first three were my favorites* that I thought was very witty and original. *I don't fancy his works anymore*. Some included the Twilight Saga *mainly because of the hype*. The Alchemist because my brother had 'em as he was a book reader, and I just thought I had to make "pakelam" his stuffs and read. I loved it so much that I actually sat through the whole book from start to end. Knowing that I'm not much into reading, I thought it was an achievement by itself. I also read Message in a Bottle because a friend sold it to my mom who bought the book for me to read and out of pity for my friend who needs to save up for something. I was not a reader but I had books, those particular books that I've mentioned, all gone, all borrowed, all unreturned.
Just this 2011, because of a not-so broken heart from first love, I tried to fixate on books, thinking that it might somehow divert myself. Not much into genre, I just wanted to find something that I could connect into. I asked a friend if she has something for me to read. Luckily she had. Started with One Day by the start of November. Read it for about two weeks. I started invading bookstores. I bought my first *yet again* book from a bargain, Last Night I Dreamed of Peace. Finished it for about more than a week, and I thought jumping from genre to genre, and trying different styles would be good, from reading a borrowed book, to a bargain book, to rereading a book, I tried rereading The Da Vinci Code and finished it for a week, surprised as I was, I can still recall a lot from my first reading which was 5 to 6 years ago.
By the time I finished Da Vinci, I found someone who loves Harry Potter as much as I do, I've read the first two chapters of the first book when I was in grade 6 elementary, and I thought that wasn't it. I finally found a friend who could lend me the books *Bloomsbury books that I prefer more than Scholastic* so I started immediately. When I moved on to the second book, I BOUGHT THE HARRY POTTER 1-7 BOXED SET/CHEST. By the end of the year, I'm reading the fourth Harry Potter book and now I'm in my fifth, and while reading, I managed to sneak in and read other shorter books in between.
I don't fancy borrowing books, I love bargains though. I hate e-books. I want that feeling, looking at your bookshelf, looking at the books as a timeless investment, and skimming through random book pages, thinking of that exact moment when you finished them, reliving the emotions, the stories, and the feeling that you can just read them again whenever, wherever.
Sorry for the long introduction, I'm a naturally talktative person. :D

And welcome to the group Joseph! :)
Joke lang, Joseph :)lots of love stories in books, but nothing beats the real thing :) keep reading but keep loving, too!
Welcome to GR-TFG! Enjoy!

Thank you Angus, I am enjoying what I am reading though there are still a few of which I have finished. That's a good outlet Joseph! Hehehe. I wish i had done the same several years ago. Haha
Angus wrote: "Hi Jam! There are a lot of YA readers here, and they'd be glad to meet you.Hi Tish! You seem to have diverse reading choices. Poetry and chic lit? It's sexy, if you ask me.
Em: Oo nga eh, pero t..."
di kaya ng kembot yan Angus, i-taxi mo pagkabili mo :)
Flipreads: tamang pilosopo ka din noh? hehe, peace :)there are books worth collecting physically. then there are those that needs chucking. thus, the ebooks. LOL some books lang naman. besides, ebooks are a lot easier to share than physical ones. madamot kaya ako! LOL
And I thought I was gonna be annoying, or was I? LOL thanks guys, I felt very welcome now.I don't know, I actually love gadgets, and I'm actually a geek, but I don't like kindles or such *for now I guess*. And that's why I buy hardcovers just so it would be worth keeping. :) Napakamahal nga lang.
Rigil: Nonfiction readers strike me as, uhm, serious readers. And they call me a serious reader when I rarely read nonfiction.
Joseph: Annoying is good (at least for me). We prefer it over the ordinary, hihihi. But no, you are not (yet) annoying. :D

I can relate to this. It's becoming a crazy habit of mine to look at my books every now and then, especially when I'm stressed, and just linger at the sight of it. Remembering those times and reasons why I read a particular book. I used to hate creases on my book pages, but now I came to realize that those folds and wrinkles add its own story to the book.
Pero kapag sobrang kapal, it can't be helped.
Natitiis ko ang new clothes or shoes, but not books. Kahit isa lang, kahit ano, kailangan may mabili. :)
Angus - Wow! Bakit kailangan may extra copy?
Mabigat at mahirap basahin.
Uy, welcome to the group Chicbee!
Kapag mahirap na kasing hanapin yung book hindi na ako mag-iinarte sa MMP.Kwesi: MMP ba yung Growth of the Soil? Wahahaha!
Haha.@Chicbee: Welcome, welcome, welcome.
@Chicbee: I don't know but creases also irritate me. HAHAHA. I guess I'm still new to these kinds of stuffs na it's not yet relevant for me. And I always cover it in #5 plastic cover automatically once I open the book.At yung tenga. HAHAHA.
I have this thinking that it served it purpose well kung talagang nagamit sya, even it means mas lukot sya.
:)Joseph: i have a bookshelf brimming with HB books. like i said, i have actual books that are only worth collecting.
LOL
Maria wrote: "Flipreads: tamang pilosopo ka din noh? hehe, peace :)there are books worth collecting physically. then there are those that needs chucking. thus, the ebooks.
Haha

hahaha tama, hehe like the smell of books din. medyo OC din ako sa pages ng books, ayoko rin may tupi pati ung cover. I also cover them with plastic. pag nakakabili ako sa fullybooked, pinapabalo ko na sa kanila. :)
