Noreen (citygirl_noreen) Hi everyone! I'm Noreen.

Anyway, I joined good reads because I really like reading (well, duh!). In fact, one of my dream jobs is to get paid reading books. I've been reading fiction ever since I bought my first "Sweet Dreams" book...nakalimutan ko na ang title... hay, those were the days, P50 lang ang isang book. I do wish I could trade books, though, para di sayang yung mga nabasa ko na. hehe.

Nice to meet y'all! :)

Aislinn hey guys,.. thanks for all the welcome.. hmmm.. i guess i should try to tell more about myself.. im a 3rd year student in pup,,taking up bachelor of science in information technology.. im taking up this cruel subject Systems Analysis and Design(SAD, makes sense.. it's guaranteed to make you sad.. hehheh..) so were currently developing a system for our client Sophie Martin.. till summer where were gonna have this final defense..(so no summer vacations for me..! told you this subject's cruel)anyway its cutting my time reading books.. arrghhh(that's probably the most sad part^.^)ahhmm.. im in no particular genre in choosing what to read.. i loved the works of Nicholas Sparks but also liked Dan Brown's and some of the vampire/werewolves/witches/faeries books.

i also found the 5 people you meet in heaven by mitch albom very fascinating.. don't you think..??

though i don't have much patience in reading classics.. i tried Pride and Prejudice JAne Eyre Wuthering Heights and Tale of two cities so far i only finished the Pride and Prejudice..hahah.. i know.. i can be lazy sometimes..

Thanks again..:D

With HP I might be a little biased, so I wouldnt touch that subject, but I'd recommend reading The Book Thief if only for Markus Zusak's way with words.

We're kindred souls Aislinn. I too like The Five People You Meet in Heaven more than Tuesdays with Morrie: An Old Man, a Young Man, and Life's Greatest Lesson. I think what resonated me more with book is Albom's idea of heaven. For me, my kind of heaven would be a library stock-piled with all the greatest books there is. Ahhh.. A true heaven! And yeah mentioning the Philippines and having a Filipinon character there was like surreal. I even wondered how could have Mitch came across our country. Well, that's my 50 cents of opinion on it.

Creepy cheers! ^_^

K.D. I liked the FOR ONE MORE DAY sa lahat kasi doon sa scene na may nakaukit sa puno. I am an IT Manager so malay mo, maka-trabaho kita pag graduate mo. Kung di pa ako retired, har har har

@Jzhunagev - never say never. Anyway, goodluck to whoever who are considering. Just remember to vote according to your conscience and betting is different from voting.

@Jade - tama ka, Winona Ryder si Jo March (youngest of the 4). Namatay kasi si J. D. Salinger so FRANNY AND ZOOEY muna. Tapos biglang nanalo ang BRIDGET JONES (na nominee ko) so, hintay muna ulit yang THE BOOK THIEF na yan.

message 477: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi! I just joined this group, yesterday, as I was trying to do something else while in goodreads. Anyhow, I feel the thrill of introducing myself to my fellow bookworms. So here I go..

I'm Anna, not so young, and I dont want to grow old.I'm a marketing-advertising personnel in a manufacturing company in Makati, and is a part-time graphic designer.

I love to read, but lately I dont have much time for that, due to work related schedules. I grew up with Sweet Valley pocketbooks and gradually stepped into more mature novels. I am not a big fan of love stories, though I know most books discuss love in it. I read love stories, but I dont read it because it is a love story, I read it because something else is in there.I love tragic, inspiring and somewhat dark topics. Chick lits? not too fond of it too. Anyway, I guess, all my rules gets bended as long as it is a book, I will read it, definitely!

message 485: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments There are so many nice features here in Goodreads. I actually wrote an email to them (Goodreads) and they responded that there is no one qualified yet. For example a review must have at least 50 characters to count. Also, if you look at the profiles of the Top Reviewers they are adding what 50-300 reviews per week. Ano ba sila, librarian talaga? How can they read that fast?

message 486: by [deleted user] (new)

300 a week? wow! pang-guiness yun.. i'll try to check out some features nga, I dont get to browse much eh, online lang madalas but idle naman. thanks for the info. must check that out.

In this site, you don't necessarily have to read and finish a book to make a review or rating. Simply make a comment about a book and they'll count it in. If you'll take time to browse through their reviews you'll notice most books were marked to-be-read.

that's a bummer, could you please post the link so i could take a look for myself, if they haven't read the book how do they know what they're talking about?!

message 489: by Apokripos (last edited Feb 05, 2010 05:22PM) (new)

Apokripos (apokalypse) | 3321 comments Guys, guys, guys... thanks for the concern, Doni. I've already encountered that problem in my sixth month of using Goodreads. And what's my reaction? What the hell do I care who's the best reviewer, best librarian or the best of anything?! I'm just sticking here in Goodreads just for the sheer fun of it. And of course the awesome people you meet and will meet, just like you guys. I'm in no competition with everyone if he's read, reviewed, added the most books. I'm just here because I like reading and like sharing the lessons learned from reading. Reading is always a meaningful and worthwhile experience I immerse myself in. And as a consequence it's a shared experience, thus the fact that this group exists. I just don't care, really.

In the end it's not the quantity that matters, it's the quality; how much of the book got through me; it's impact in my life and how it made it richer. I say let them have the most. But in the end only those who've come to appreciate and enjoy good literature will have all the confidence to say that they have been deeply rewarded.

That's my take on it. I hope eveyone of you appreciated it.

Mabuhay pa rin ang Filipino! ^_^

I'm with you there. We're here because we have such fun reading books and we want to share the feeling. It doesn't matter if we make the most and best review. Besides, isn't it tedious writing reviews all the time? And, come to think of it, it's not humanly possible to read more than a thousand books a week. Much so, to write that much reviews. :D
