message 3: by Megan (new)

Megan | 86 comments I loved A Separate Peace, in a depressing sort of way. It's one of my all-time favorites.

message 4: by Beth Ann (new)

Beth Ann (bagrover) Wow! It amazes me that you can read that many in a year! My goal is 30 books this year! I'm a slow reader though and work often gets in the way, so 30 is alot for me. Good luck with your challeng, I really think that's awesome!

Kandice: didn't really enjoy clockwork orange. It's up there with my didn't care for much and I hated the movie. I am reading the 1001 books to read before you die. It was on the list. I hated the movie but thought I would get the book out of the way. Glad I finished it! Moby Dick was much much better!

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

Megan: I really loved Seperate Peace. I am sure I'll read it again.

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

Beth: it's not too hard to read 100 books it breaks down to just 2 books a week. (52 wks a yr) I read several hours before bed it relaxes me!

message 9: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Well, I certainly wouldn't say I enjoyed CW but...WOW! I think it was like The Road for me. I was uncomfortable the whole time I read it, but it stayed in my mind for such a long time after. That has to mean something, right?

I noticed yesterday that there is a group here on Goodreads for the 1001 books to read before you die.

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

Kandice: It was disturbing. i was just glad that i read a couple other books the same time to tyr to force it out of my head. Them movie just violated me!

I don't even know which 1001 books are in the list/book. I've probably got enough to read with all the reading challenges I signed up for here in GRs. I've never read a 100 books a year yet, so to read 1001 books, would take me 10-12 years, and that would leave no room for the books I want to read that aren't on the list. But for those up to the task, I thought the group might offer support and I just happened to see it yesterday.

Allison (The Allure of Books) (inconceivably) http://listology.com/content_show.cfm...

That is a list of the 1001 books in ABC order by author

ஐ Briansgirl (Book Sale Queen)ஐ (BriansGirlKate) Thanks for the link. I think I've read 17 off the list, and currently-reading another. I'd never get through even a quarter of that list. lol

Allison (The Allure of Books) (inconceivably) I think it might be impossible to read them all.

Especially if you aren't multilingual, because not all of those books are translated into English.

I like the Idiot's Guide to the Ultimate Reading List better, it has suggestions for everyting from mysteries to romance to sci-fi to classics...its a much more approachable list. There is a GR group for it too.

ஐ Briansgirl (Book Sale Queen)ஐ (BriansGirlKate) I havn't heard of that one. I'm slowly working my way through some classics, a couple a year. I'm reading Pride and Prejudice right now with others in a group. I have the feeling if I tried alot of those books on the list I'd be reading stuff that wouldn't interest me (the 1001).

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

Allison: which books aren't in English? So far I haven't ran into any in other languages. I'm okay with reading French so I would be fine if they were in French.

Allison (The Allure of Books) (inconceivably) uuuhhhmmm...I don't remember what isn't in English. I THINK there might be a thread over at the 1001 group about it though. I know I talked to someone in that group about it...I don't think there are very many though.

That is a hard question. I really liked the Age of Innocence and The Comfort of Strangers. But Extremely Loud was great too. The one I disliked and will never ever read again is Clockwork Orange.

Becky (Beckyofthe19and9) What did you think of "Where Angels Fear To Tread?" I have that on my TBR, but it seems like it might be one of those love it or hate it books. Did you love it?

message 50: by [deleted user] (new)

I loved it. I like Forster and haven't read a novel of his I didn't like. He really brings out controversy. Really gets you thinking. Also teaches us to mind our own business.
