Originally, what is the tree's skin comes from arabic name: al-qurq and amazingly, this namecan be assimilated to the name Cortex! Is the cork the tree's cortex?

I heard it is, and that the bark is skinned off the Portuguese cork trees once every seven years.

Al-qurq makes me think of quercus, oak.

Remember Sir Patrick Spens and his Scotch nobles all drowned with their cork-heeled shoes?
