If Sunny would have been alive, would he be a good choice to take over the Corleone regime as the next Godfather??

Michael was the best option, although thats not really what he wished for in life ... but as Vito Corleone had a way of saying "a man doesnt choose his destiny". With Sunny as Don, the Corleone corporation would have been wiped out very quickly. Michael had his father's coolness and suave mannerisms that helped to strengthen the respect he was given and to help with the decisions he made.

Well, that's possible, but he might have went against all expectations and run it for good. Remember that all his life Don Corleone had been preparing Sonny to take over-because he knew that Micheal wasn't coming for family business and Ferredo is unreliable. So for sure Don Corleone may have envisaged that situation and prepared for it. Well Sonny may get mad at first, but sooner or later he'll get to his mind and make use of the years long courtship he had with his father. Another point is the fact that Tom Hagen was also there, and he's a formidable planner that can run the business in a smooth way with Sonny.

I agree with what Kim had posted. Sonny was way too hot headed. He acted out of vengeance. He didn't take the time to stop and think of what the consequences would be. And that is what got him killed.
