This was an interesting story this morning on my somewhat late and stress-filled drive to CSU. More interesting was the newfound knowledge that its not pronounced with the labiodental fricative neander-THAll but instead ne-ander-tall.

This was as groundbreaking to my idiolect as the day NPR taught me that mischievous isn't pronounced with the middle syllable rhyming with cheese, but handkerchief.

It's okay to admit it, Kevin. You're among friends here.

Matt | 819 comments Does labiodental fricative sound dirty to anyone else? ...nah, me neither.

So does anyone know when the thing that you put flowers in went from being a vayse to a vahz? I never received the memo on that one.
