I just finished
. Seriously?! January, you are still too far away. Why you do that Diana Rowland? Huh? Why you do that?Gonna read
and then
I read book 1 in October. In another group, we're reading a book a month to lead up to the next release in March. I liked it a lot. It has it's issues, but there's so much to learn about the world that it ends up being really interesting.
Sarah ♥ Vutch forever ♥ wrote: "I just added The Hollows to my TBR pile. I'm so weak!"Yay!! I agree with Mello, its about time.
When are you starting NH?
Ahhh, why do you think I will hate Rachel? Isn't she like Kate Daniels or Dory?
Why would I like Al? Damn, now you make me curious about him!
Are you asking me, Arushi? I'm not sure yet. I have several new series I want to try. Not sure with which one I'll start.

You will hate Rachel. You will love Al.
I wonder what you'll think of Trent.
Its like one of those things: "the earth revolves around the sun' :P These guys nailed it.
To find the reasons... you gotta read the books
Yep.. I was asking you.. and I can see it'll take you a while to get to it.
Sarah ♥ Vutch forever ♥ wrote: "You talk like an oracle, Arushi. LOL"LMAO!!
I am even sitting here in the lotus yoga pose, looking all oracle-y *grins*
Well I don't know about Sarah but I... hate it's too strong of the word so maybe dislike is better, so I dislike Rachel (even if it's a book, her constantly calling "Jenks" give me a headache), I like Al :), I adore Trent (he is the reason that mainly kept me reading the series) and I love Jenks curses (fairy farts LOL)
@Margo - I'd forgotten Jenks curses. Love them.. especially the way he slaughters Tinkerbell :D @Jax - Awesome!!! How'd you like FK? Wanna come to the spoiler thread now? *hint hint nudge nudge*

Not Kate, a little like Dory (kick ass and makes mistakes), Like Cassie in the sense she's "girl next door" like . . . Rachel is really stupid sometimes. That bothers a lot of people. I think it's part of her charm ;)
What's the color of Al's spectacles? Is it blue or green? Don't know why I fixate on that detail....is coat is green so his spectacles can't be the same color, right?
@Zeenat Rachel's stupid moments are annoying to me. But I like her enough that the annoyance balances out. I usually love her, but every once in a while she'll do something that has me shaking me head. (Generally, it involves Trent!!)@Sarah I think you'll love Al because he's definitively the bad guy and doesn't care who knows. Rachel's tough, but not as kick ass as Dory or Kate.
Rachel's stupid moments make me want to do her bodily harm. I don't hate her as much as I did when I first started the series, but she gets on my nerves. I don't totally hate her mostly because she is a good person and she tries to do the right thing. She just tends to go about doing it rather stupidly. Plus, her hangups about Trent frustrate me to no end. Her feelings regarding Ivy did the same, too.
I too have some issues with Rachel but the world building is really what keeps me reading. Kristen was pretty good drama and I wanted to kill Nick is the most painful way.
Yeah I'm a fan of Rachel for the most part. I wanna hit her upside the head a lot of times, but as her best friends want to also, I figure that's the norm LOLCan we kill Nick and in how many ways . . . I had a daydream/FF idea of the first book mirroring one of the last books. Rachel and Trent go to FIB to have Nick arrested LOL.
I can get on the killing Nick bandwagon.@Valerie The world building is my main reason for being so addicted to the series, too. I love the stories and have been loving the plot, so I can put up with Rachel making me want to hit things.
I admit I go to heaven whenever demon info comes along in the books....give me Al any day over Trent. Who needs....whatever Trent is when you've got a sexy evil demon? Ok, not true, all demons are devious and not to be trusted but still I wish I could visit the Ever After.
I wouldn't want to visit the Ever After. The demons don't look too highly on humans. Nick just needs to die! I hate him. I love Trent and Al equally for different reasons.
I just started
. If it wasn't for everyone's assurances that the series is worth it I probably would have written it off by now. It is definitely very, very cheesy.
I never felt the DH books were as cheesy as I had expected them to be. They definitely have their moments, but Fantasy Lover is the worst one when it comes to cheesiness. Mostly because the world of the Dark-Hunters hasn't really been revealed. I think you'll find the level of cheesiness not too bad in the following books since there will be an on-going storyline, then.
If I'd read Fantasy Lover first, I might have assumed it was too cheesy and not read the rest, but I didn't know about it at the time, so I read Night Pleasures first because Amazon kept recommending it to me. I didn't realize Fantasy Lover existed until after I joined GR and had already read the third book.
@Zeenat The only truly cheesy book in the Highlander series was book 2, when KMM's publisher pushed her to write closer to straight romance. Otherwise, it's a lot easier to read.I'd always seen Fantasy Lover in my recommendations and never bothered to read it because it sounded so cliché. But if you guys can read the books and enjoy them, there clearly must be some substance!
The romance part of the DH books is.. almost like any other PNR. Angsty hero (or well.. Kenyon likes them with a tortured past) and a pretty, innocent, sweet heroine, usually with a bad past of her own and bad guys after her life. She is the only one who gets him. But Kenyon actually makes it okay to read.
Its the world building, and the bigger plot that is coming along in all of the books that is really good. That is so addicting, and you have to love the characters, even the ones who're now 'mated' or married or whatever. Coz the snark just never dies. But the people who're still single? Truly awesome!

Btw, I am also on the killing Nick bandwagon.
The world building is the main reason that I stuck kept reading the Hollows books one after the other.

How about Gin Blanco from Spider's Bite and the rest of that series?
I also like most of the females in G.A. Aiken's Dragon_Kin series.

Nick is a total douche, reading the series again made me do the ‘oh no don’t open that door’ thought people do at scary movies. Rachel has her moments of not being a total clueless moron, but sometimes it is nice to read a character where you do not agree with all that she does and get the urge to kick puppies and be mean to old people, gets the blood flowing, it’s healthy for you.DH universe gets better after fantasy lover, I read night pleasures first too and that is one of my favorite books in the series. Gotta think about the fact that the series has evolved over a lot of years.
I would so read NH before the hollows …
Speaking of demons Larissa ione’s demonica/lord of deliverance series comes to mind. There is a couple for each book, but they all link together and all of the females kick ass in their own way. Tayla’s half-demon side is one of the scariest in that world and Sin is just a freaking bad-ass.
For a random suggestion for series with a kick ass heroin:
Kelly Meading’s Dreg City
Replying after so late in the game so to speak makes llaph babble like a dork
@Llaph - Lol glad you showed up :) I will add Dreg City to my TBR pile. I also adored Larissa Ione's Demonica series. Its pretty good. Tho I do have so issues with Lords of Deliverance, I am still reading it.
You tell these guys to read NH!! They've quit listening to my harping.. lol
As for DH.. I think I will be old before that series is done. We just started the second arch. Ugh.
Well, I'll defo try the Chicagoland Vampires, Kara Gillian and NH first.
Btw, finished Iced and loooooved it.

Dreg City was not like anything I have read before. Hope you like it when you get to it, I tend to like a lot of weird things and they may not be for everyone. <>
NH is awesome wtf ... I love the sense of humors that Kat and Bones have, leads to the best quotes. I don’t laugh as hard as I would reading Molly Harper’s books, but they still make me laugh.
The 2 NH world books I liked too, they were in 3rd person. I personally have an obsession with Mencheres ...The new series she has with Vlad, hilovevlad. I had read that book like 3 times since I got it. I can't wait for the next one...
Demonica/LoD are on my comfort books list, which means I have read them at least 3 times if not more ... As for the LoD, I like Ares's book, Thanantos's book, and Limos's book is annoying so I skip it. I can't wait for the last book next month.
I guess it will be like a constant in life? “Ahh the crops are bad this season but there will be a new DH book next month.”

I did mention Gin before....I think she's pretty Kick Ass too.

It is weird for me to forget about reading a book, but I forgot I left Iced at 50%. So going back to finish it, Shadow’s Claim by Kresley Cole distracted me … oh shiny …
I would read NH before CLV, but I am biased, as for the other I have not read it so I will not say.

Larissa Ione used to be one of my fave authors but I quit reading her after Limos's book because of the (view spoiler)

One of my friends is crazy about the NH series and has been bugging me about it for ages. But it's weird, I have to be in the mood for a book/series and I feel more drawn to the CLV at the moment.

Sarah, I honestly can't wait for you to read CLV just to hear your reactions. The new book's out in February, and I'm sure a bunch of us will be reading that. I don't know if there would be enough interest for a group read early next year? (Though you might want to start before that of course.)

I think the whole thing is stupid to start with, but liked how it turned out. I have read stuff *wayway* worse and f’d up than that (hello 1st part of Acheron for example) so I honestly did not think too much on it sides to think ‘man she is a dumbass.’

I know exactly how that is … sometimes you feel like having flaming hot cheetos and sometimes you would rather some cool ranch Doritos. You like them both but the cheetos win out for now.

Don't say that! Now I'm seriously thinking about rearranging my TBR pile for next year to read the books before the new one is released.

I loved the first part of Acheron, way more than the second one. He also didn't end up with the person (view spoiler)
