When I get a chance to read a book I had been waiting for I have been known to squee (yes that is a sound) and golf clap.
Yes, I can admit when I am a dork.

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments Claire--I'm glad you are liking Fantasy Lover. If you like it that much, you will really like the rest of the books. I am not a fan of PNR as much as UF, but I love the DH books. the world building is just top notch.

I use fictfact religiously! It really helps me keep track of my tbr pile better than goodreads. I use that for long range planning and keeping track of all my series. :)

Gin | 323 comments Just finished Days of Blood & Starlight (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #2) by Laini Taylor and looooved it!! I think it might actually be better than the first.
Now I'll continue where I left off with Nightshifted (Edie Spence, #1) by Cassie Alexander

message 507: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments I read Night Pleasures (Dark-Hunter, #2) by Sherrilyn Kenyon and Night Embrace (Dark-Hunter, #3) by Sherrilyn Kenyon today. I liked the first and nearly hated the second. Luckily, my least favorite character's (Sunshine's)POV calmed down and let me get through the rest of the book. I'm glad I did because I really do like the world Kenyon created but her super flowery descriptions of characters' feelings are so sugary sweet I want to go brush my teeth.

That book is one of my least favorite ... sunny is borderline tstl sometimes. When I read the series again I skip that one it just does not sit right with me somehow.
Personally I think Talon should feed her to his gators she is that annoying.

I'd offere my favorites, but my favorites everyone's choice. Books I think a 4 or 5 get mostly 3 and 4. I have a dentist appoiontmet tomorrow and I did the big no no of posting while on ambien.

message 509: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments Sunshine is TSTL, period. Talon definitely would have been better off feeding her to his pet alligators.

message 510: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments LOL I think Claire if you don't like the next book, Dance with the Devil (Dark-Hunter, #4; Were-Hunter, #2) by Sherrilyn Kenyon , maybe the series isn't for you. That one is everyone's favorite (although personally Seize the Night (Dark-Hunter, #7) by Sherrilyn Kenyon is my favorite--I'm a huge Nick fan).

Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments I agree with Zeenat. If you don't like Zarek's book, you may just want to stop unless the overall storyline still appeals to you. Zarek's book is still one of my most favorite, but so is Valerius's (Zeenat's favorite).

Starting Iced (Dani O'Malley, #1) by Karen Marie Moning

Zarek's and Valerius's are among my fave DH books as well so I agree with everything Zeenat and Mello said.

I hope you'll enjoy Iced, Mello!

Kathy Davie (kathydavie) | 457 comments Finally read Darynda Jones' Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet and I was pretty disappointed. Then I read Karen Marie Moning's Iced ...and I doubt if I'll be reading the next in the Dani O'Malley series. I couldn't stand Dani and(view spoiler)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments Vane's is another favorite. (book 5) Night Play (Dark-Hunter, #6; Were-Hunter, #3) by Sherrilyn Kenyon .

Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments Zarek's book is the one that hooked me into continuing DH. I liked Kyrian's and Talon's books when I read them, but not so much that I was certain I would read on. I gave them 4 stars I think, but I didn't decide I'd read all of the books until I read Zarek's.

@Zeenat I really loved Vane's book, too. Sin's book is also a favorite of mine.

@Sarah I hope I enjoy Iced, too. I've seen so many differing opinions. I think I will, though.

I like Zarek's book.. but Val is kinda my favorite too. The only book that competes for my favorite spot came much later in the series (Jericho's book), and that has a lot to do with all the politics and background stuff that's happening in it.

I also liked Dante's book.. though its more like a novella. Vane's is also pretty good, and so is... okay yeah.. I liked most of them. *hangs head* Now I wanna do a re-read...

The earlier ones have more when it comes to characters, (coz we're new to Kenyon's style?) but the later ones have that awesome background plot and world... so its such a toss up.

Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments I love Jericho's book for that reason as well, Arushi. I loved Xypher's book just because I love Xypher, though. =D

I've been trying hard not to re-read the books since I only just read them all in April. Every time someone starts the series for the first time, I struggle against not reading them along with them. I already have way too many books I haven't read yet as it is.

message 521: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments lol 20 book reread!

The earlier books are original in storylines--and the later books try to emulate the style of the earlier books, which annoys me. (How many more abused and tortured males do we have to read? I'd like more abused and tortured females tbh)

message 522: by Arushi (last edited Nov 14, 2012 10:11AM) (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments @Mello - Which one is Xypher? You might have to give some really obvious hints to clue me in! The last book I read was Sundown's though. Haven't read anything that came out after that.

AND I totally know what you mean abt the re-read thing. I just might do one sometime soon as I keep having issues with figuring out what I wanna read next.

message 523: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments @Zeenat - Sherrilyn prefers the innocent kind of heroines... that 'soothe' the hero? whatever.. I agree. the main plot has become quite predictable. I was so unhappy that I could not get excited about Dev's book.

But still.. have to love the world...

message 524: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments I think Sherrilyn heroes are alphas who are not really alphas. The girl are not always innocent (I mean Tabitha?), but they are usually not "abused" or "hurt". Even when the girl is the DH, Her trauma is . . . death of a family member? that's it . . . it's a bit frustrating.

And SK really doesn't like any kind of "roughness". Rough sex is ALWAYS a bad thing.

Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments @Zeenat I do have to agree. I love a tortured hero, but not every single one of them needs to be that way. Arushi is right about SK liking for her heroines to be the type that "treat the hero in a way he's never been treated" and to be soothing. That can get quite repetitive, but I keep on reading anyway. I have to know when/how all of the underlying storylines will come to a head.

@Arushi Xypher is the Dream-Hunter that is first introduced in Sin's book.

message 526: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments I wonder if I reread the books, cause it's been awhile, if my opinion's will change. DH was another series I read early on . . . I need to do a lot of rereads LOL

Nick (view spoiler)

Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments Lmao!

For your sake Zeenat, I hope he doesn't. I remember reading somewhere on SK's site that the CON series is supposed to be somewhat long. The number 12 sticks in my head. If he's still with her by the end of that series, I'll be shocked.

message 528: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments @Mello - I think I remember Xypher now! Mostly... well.. the books do blur together after a while. I read them around three years ago... crazy two weeks.. lol

@Zeenat - that is what I meant by the 'innocent soothe the hero kind'.. they have the outlook that nothing 'bad bad' would ever happen to them. Most of them have had loving parents/families, etc.

Like Mello said, their worst trauma deals with death, and the guys spend a LOT of time getting over their hangups.. considering how many hangups the guys should have. Which they oddly, usually do not. Except Ash.. and it was only those 2 things (view spoiler)

I mean Seth got over everything real fast. And even Jericho.. as much as I adore his book... he moved pretty quickly. And so did Fury, and god was he forgiving, but then he's a were, so he was effed, anyways.

But yeah... I guess if we worked at it, we could make the perfect mould that would fit all her heroes, and another that would fit all the girls, almost perfectly.
Man I sound so bitchy.. and I actually like the series.

Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments I loved Xypher. He was just so snarky. Plus, (view spoiler).

I still need to read Fury's novella. I love Fury.

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments Trying not to list all of my favorites in that series … ren and Maggie )unleash the night), raven and Susan (dark side of the moon) I really love that book, sin’s book (devil may cry), Xipher’s book (dream chaser), Jericho’s book (dream warrior( love the politics in that book too … the Greek gods are so annoying I liked how they got around him and I really want another Jericho and delphine book, and I think that is it that I will let myself post.
I really like the series, even with all the dumb short stories, … I am looking forward to Dark Bites that is to have all of them in one book so I can read the ones that I missed.
@zeenat wanna see tortured males check out her league series … all but 1 of the books has a hero that had some heinous stuff happen to them in their childhood. I did a big WTF when I read darling’s book (born of silence) Either way I love that series too.

I have spent the past few months re-reading books I like and have read before while fitting in new ones in some places. When I was younger everytime a new Wheel of Time book came out I would read the whole series over before reading the new book … I did that up till the number hit 11 I believe (those books are huge btw) . It is hard sometimes when you read a sequel to not want to read the whole series again …

message 531: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments Mello--I think so too. . . that's about 9 more years before we get Nick's book, so at least what 9 more CON books and 10-20 more DH/DrH/WH books?

I'm cheering for (view spoiler) me. I'll write myself in. Maybe I should just write a DH fan fiction to soothe my Nick fantasies ROFL.

message 532: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments Tortured males aside I think she is good at making characters you hate a lot … sadira is one, mama bear (I don’t care what happened to her in fang and ammee’s book I still think she is a dumb bitch) artemis )seriously I hate that thing), and I am sure there are a lot more … hmm those are all females … I think I am sexist or something.
Dark Bites is coming out next month:
Pg for the book using screen reader so can’t use those fancy link things

message 533: by Arushi (last edited Nov 14, 2012 11:00AM) (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments @Llaph - I think I would never get any extra reading done if I started reading everything again before a new book came out. But I like most of the books you listed :)

@Zeenat - You can have Nick! Plus, I agree with you. Somehow a single mom would really suit him. It would also probably bring out his nicer/protective but not over-bearing side. I am not reading CON. I could not make myself do it after reading the first book. The changing of events in the past.. yeah.. no. But even in that book I did NOT like Nekoda.

(view spoiler)

EDIT: Even I remember that there'll be 10/12 CON books, and at the end of that we'll get Nick's book.

message 534: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments Dog's of war was not really mentioned in the last few books. but if you want progress--the last DH book had interesting Acheron and Nick moments.

I have been reading the CON books, but I am not really a fan of them. They're reall bad imo. I can't believe they are being turned into movies.

message 535: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments I read super super fast. I sped read when I could still see and now that I can listen to books and adjust the speed ... I am at around 100 pages in an hour. Plus I lack a job atm so have plenty of free time.

I only read the CoN books because they were there and I could ... Infamous pissed me off ... the way she portrays cherise in those books ... seriously.

Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments @Zeenat I agree with your idea for a heroine for him.

I've actually liked the CON books, although I liked the first one best because I thought Nick was hilarious. I haven't liked the rest quite as much. I don't like the changing of events in the past, either, though and I don't gaf about Nekoda. I want her to go away. I didn't know they were being turned into movies. Twilight and Hunger Games have helped spark a lot of interest in turning YA into movies. I didn't know that Beautiful Creatures (Caster Chronicles, #1) by Kami Garcia and Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion were being turned into movies until I saw trailers when I went to see Paranormal Activity 4. I knew Divergent was being made into a movie, but I didn't realize so many would be. It doesn't make me all that surprised that CON will get movies, too.

message 537: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments I hate movies/tv/ graphic novels made from books. They are never right to me, my imagination is much better. I felt that way before I went blind btw.
One example that I can think of is Cujo ... the boy dies damnit ... let it stay in the movie.
I did not see the Stand but like every Stephen King movie I have seen that I read the book to also did not live up to my expectations.
That is only for the King movies, not listing the other made from book movies/tv shows. I tend to avoid them now.
Yes, I am an anti-social hermit.

Am I the only one who hates and gets confused by the way the DH books are categorized? For me it's all one big universe but SK counts some as DH, some as DrH, some as WereH and some as Hellchaser. So a book can be

Especially that they do share the general story arc. You almost have to read them in sequence to get the background info.
