• You think that framed cover art from Nicole Peeler’s Jane True (Tempest Rising, Tracking the Tempest, et. al.) and Jaye Wells’ Sabina Kane (Red-Headed Stepchild, The Mage in Black, et. al.) sagas constitute suitable living room wall art.

Hahahahahaha too cute! I've been trying to get my bf to read UF for the past 5 years but he stubbornly refuses to do so. Did you have to bribe your hubbie or is he just cool like that?

Btw, that reminds me of the scene in Million Dollar Baby :) *sighs* Trent, Trent, Trent..

Jax | 848 comments Men - They can be sooo stubborn! LOL
Though in my case, it was actually my hubby who found me the UF genre to begin with, he thought they sounded interesting, and suggested I try some.
He reads Kim Harrison,L.K.H, Charlaine Harris and Jenna Black
And I recently got him to start reading the Kate Daniels Series... :D

I think maybe its the covers that put most men off - Apparently it might offend their masculinity! LOL

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6414 comments I have been dabbling in writing, and wrote fan fiction on the hollows. But I told my husband he can't read it until he reads the hollows. So that got him started. He felt it was a drag till about the 3rd book and now he likes it.

I'm thinking a group read of The Hollows might be an idea at some point next year. What do you think Zeenat? Would you like to be involved with that?

message 13: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6414 comments The hollows, who reads the hollows? pshhhhh . . . lol

I am always involved with any reading of the hollows ;) Pretty soon I'll be able to recite the books line for line. Probably the same with Cassie books, toby daye and jane yellowrock. lol Some series' get all the attention from me.

Claire (Claire1) | 4511 comments I would totally be up for a Hollows reread. I'm beginning to think I should give the second Jane Yellowrock a try....but I really did not enjoy the first one all that much.

I only gave the first book 3 stars but hung in there because JY is such a badass :) I also found out that Faith Hunter was Kim Harrison's mentor and figured I'd support the woman who helped mold one of my favorite authors. I'm glad I did because the later books in the series are pretty good since the overall story arc becomes more developed. I highly recommend reading Cat's Tail (#3.5) after you finish books 2 and 3 as it explains some pretty interesting things about Ricky Bo's destiny.

Amy, I wasn't all that keen on the first Hollows book either, but so many people say it gets so much better that I feel like I should give it another chance. And it would be good to read in the company of people who are really enthusiastic about the books (or who will threaten me if I don't finish LOL!)

I've really enjoyed the couple of group reads we've done so far, and I thought The Hollows would be a good choice. Oh, and the Night Huntress series too. And a reread of Chicagoland Vamps. (This is like 6 months worth of reading for me LMAO!)

The Hollows books definitely only get better. I'm iffy about the JY books because I don't necessarily like Hunter's style of writing...or Jane...or Beast. Anyway...
The Night Huntress books are absolutely amazing. I found them over winter break last year and read all of them in a week.

Ahh the Chicagoland Vamps.. I ragequit the series after what happened to Ethan. I might pick it up again after the series ends and i trolled goodreads for spoilers though.

Cat and Bones used to be so damn hot together. Something happened, imo, and the chemistry's gone from the series. It feels like the last two books were fillers and there really wasnt anything substantial to sink my teeth into. I do love the Nighthuntress World books though.

I had no idea Faith Hunter was Kim Harrison's mentor! How cool is that! I was the same way with the JY books and now they are one of my favs. I would love to do a group read with that series! Especially since the last book was such a game changer.

Cat and Bones have definitely fizzled out...so sad. I may come back to that series when its over.

Lol. Some of the places like the neighborhoods, streets, government buildings, ect. Sadly the the Beast Lord's castle has yet to be found or else I would be trying to get an invite.

Claire (Claire1) | 4511 comments @Lexi given that the Night Huntress series is supposed to be drawing to a close, I think the action will pick back up. I have to say I wasn't a fan of the most recent one, but I have faith that Frost will bring it back up.

message 36: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3665 comments About NH, the chemistry does seem to have fizzled out a bit, but I am hoping that the next book will be better. Also Vlad's book was good. So I do have good reason for my hope (or so I keep telling myself).

...when you are more comfortable telling your 8 year old cousin about Dory than Snow White. She loved the story when Cheung destroyed Radu's car.

I hope so!!! I really liked Vlad's book. He is so HOT.

@Arushi, Dory is kick ass compared to Snow White! My god daughter wanted me to tell her a bed time story recently she "so over" the princesses. So I told her a G rated version of Kate Daniels. I called it Kate and the Magic Sword. Little girls need better heroines... :)

Well, I heard they are married so I hope the romance gets solved fast and we get lots of action and world-building.

message 42: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3665 comments @Lexi - that's a brilliant idea. I might do that next too. Thanks :)

@Sarah - You really should give NH a try. By the time the romance sorta fizzles out, the world is already very well sorted and you're in love with the other characters (Spade, Ian, Vlad). So it all works out.
Plus the plot tends to be really good.

But no, the romance does not get solved fast. Don't go in thinking that. But trust me.. Cat is so not a damsel in distress that it drives Bones crazy. I should stop before I give away more spoilers :)
