Jim (jimmaclachlan) We're not even freezing & supposed to go up into the 60's today with rain tonight. Yesterday, we never quite made it to 60, but it was a gorgeous day. I got a bunch of the branches & trees cut up from the ice storm. It was sloppy & slick, but I just couldn't stand to be inside.

I also had a big roll of old mining, conveyor belt. It's about 3' wide & over 100' long by 1/2" thick. Marg has been struggling to get the wheelbarrow from the barn to the manure pile, so I took that roll out there & made her a path with it. It was too heavy to pick up or unroll manually, so I used the front end loader. She says it's better than a red carpet!

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Jim, it must have been glorious to have such comparatively warm weather, especially after the freeze you've been through there in KY.

Here's a souvenir for Marg:

HTH :)

PS-BTW, that was pretty ingenious of you!

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Actually, it was Marg's idea. I'm just the one who gets to do the work. Luckily, it was easy with the tractor. I think that roll was probably 400 lbs or so.

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Jim, you and Marg make a good team!

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Yeah, I guess we do work well together. Mom thought we were crazy when we got married after only 6 months, but it's been 27 years now & seems to be working out...

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Hey! Coincidence! Ed and I got married after only 6 months too! We met in August and were married the next February. We'll celebrate 49 years this month on Feb. 20.

When is your anniversary, Jim?

message 8: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Happy anniversary, Joy! Give Eddie my best, too. 49 years is super.

Marg & I met in December & were married on 8May82, so we'll be celebrating 27 years then. My mother knew both of us were working for the same racing stable & told me I should look Marg up. We'd actually met, but didn't really know it. I had one barn with a dozen yearlings & she worked on the indoor track. It was a super cold winter, so all I could see of her was bulky outer clothing & a pair of glasses squeezed between a scarf & hat. It was pleasant for us to go out one night & finally see what each other looked like.

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments You both must have liked what you saw. Cute story, Jim.
It's always interesting to find out how couples originally met.
What state was the racing stable in?

Below is a link to some photos I took at Saratoga Race Track when my Red Hat group went to the races one day. The photos show the paddock where some the horses waited before going out to race. It was very pretty there.

There are also a few scenes showing different parts of the grounds.

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments PS-Thanks for the wishes, Jim. The kids are visiting for President's Weekend, Feb. 14, 15,& 16. We'll probably celebrate then by going out to a restaurant.
