Nathan "N.R." Gaddis (nathannrgaddis) | 662 comments There is a new wikipedia article, created this month, about Women & Men. For those who'd like to remain tethered only to this group and read with naive eyes, skip it. For those who might like a little guidance as to character and setting and chronology, perhaps it's of some use. Wish I knew who wrote it.

Nathan "N.R." Gaddis (nathannrgaddis) | 662 comments Library researchers? There are not many professional reviews of W&M on the internet, so far as I've found. Is there anyone willing to do a some library research and uncover a few more reviews from 1987-90? B0nnie? Whether you can dig up the full text of the review or even just a bibliographic citation, either would be helpful.

I'm not sure how many of you have access to JSTOR, but I've found some articles and interviews with McElroy that were published in journals a few years back that look interesting. I would loan out my password, but it's also my private university account and I'd prefer not to deal with the repercussions of it being compromised.

Interview with Tom LeClair

Review of The Letter Left To Me

Joseph McElroy and the Art of Excess - Tom LeClair

Thanks, Sean. I'm especially interested in the LeClair material. A portion of his book, including part of the McElroy chapter, is available at googlebooks via their preview:

What I've seen of this book, he has an interesting thesis for understanding these encyclopedic and mega novels.

I also found this one, but it can't be accessed without a UoM account as far as I can tell, so here's the citation:

Hoffman, Nika. "A Summary and Analysis of Women and Men." Masterplots Ii: American Fiction Series, Revised Edition. California: Salem Press, 2000. 1-3. Print.

and this one:

Muste, John M. "Women and Men." Magill's Literary Annual. June 1988 (1988): 1 - 4. Print.

(I wouldn't bother with Muste's article, though.)

It's all bibliographic fodder. ; )

Thanks for digging this stuff up. Steven Moore put together a bibliography 20 years ago, and I think we'll be able to do some updating to that. It's in the Review of Contemporary Fiction Joseph McElroy Number.

James | 79 comments Picked up the Review of Contemporary Fiction issues with Gass and Coover, but forgot to put the McElroy in my cart. Are these good, great, essential? Nathan looks like the only one who has read the McElroy version.

I would indeed put the McElroy Number up there with Essential.

Thank Nathan, good review.

James | 79 comments He's got a pretty nice list of books he's reviewing for the stalking the Behemoth series. Fun Review to read.

Sentimental Surrealist (sentimentalsurrealist) | 4 comments To George and James (Nathan already knows) - I'm glad you guys liked Chris Schahfer's review of Women and Men because Chris Schahfer happens to be me! Always nice to know I'm doing a good job on the book reviews.

George | 21 comments Awesome, that was a great review.

Sentimental Surrealist (sentimentalsurrealist) | 4 comments Thanks! I put a little extra work in when a book really resonates with me, and I'm glad to see it translated.
