When they started using the speedy service they took out of the menu all the food that's eaten with a spoon, a knive or fork. They also spent less money because they didn't have to pay a waitress, dishwashers,bus boys or carhops. Also since the food was very basic and all of the burgers had pretty much the same condiments so they didn't have to have high skilled chefs.
They got rid of of everything that had to be eaten with a knife, spoon, or fork. The only sandwiches now sold were hamburgers and cheese burgers. The brothers got rid of their dishes and glassware, replacing them with paper cups, paper bags, and paper plates. They divided food preparation into separate tasks performed by different workers. The McDonald's brothers "speedee service" system revolutionized the restaurant business. The McDonald's system was kind of a self-service no carhops, no waitress, no dishwashers and no bus boys.(pg.20)
Speedy Service was an idea that the McDonald's brothers came up with to make everything go faster. They changed the menu so forks, spoons, and knifes weren't needed. Everything could just be thrown away, no dishwashing needed. There was no waitress', it was practically self service. You go to the counter, you buy your food, you bring your food back to the table, eat it, and throw the rest away. Employes split up the work too. One person would cook the burger, another would make the french fries, and another would put in all together in a paper bag. Like an assembly line. It was new, fast way to eat that got people excited.
