"Today I will be teaching you about the Brønsted–Lowry acid–base theory," said the teacher. "In chemistry, the Brønsted–Lowry theory is an acid-base theory, proposed independently by Johannes Nicolaus Brønsted and Thomas Martin Lowry in 1923. In this system, Brønsted acids and Brønsted bases are defined, by which an acid is a molecule or ion that is able to lose, or 'donate,' a hydrogen cation (proton, H+), and a base is a species with the ability to gain, or 'accept,' a hydrogen cation, or proton." Mike listened to every word. He was interested in chemistry since he was 5 years old. Instead of sitting in his assigned seat, he sat in his wheelchair at the front.

Mike raised his hand. "Mike?" said the teacher. "Can you tell us more about the... um... acids and bases?" he asked. The class groaned. "Everybody be quiet!" said the teacher. "Thanks for the question, Mike," he said. Mike nodded. "It follows that, if a compound is to behave as an acid, donating a proton, there must be a base to accept the proton. So the Brønsted–Lowry concept can be defined by the reaction:
acid + base conjugate base + conjugate acid." Someone called him. "Psst!" they said.

"What do you want Hannah?" said Mike. "You're interested in chemistry, too?" Mike sighed and said, "Yeah, now hush, I'm trying to listen."

Sam/Applejack♆ Samantha slumped in and slid into a seat.

"Hello," Mike whispered to Samantha, then he put his eyes back on the teacher.
