AV Club asked a question about memorable TV/movie marathons, and I thought I'd ask the question here as well.

I don't often watch anything marathon-style, but I did rewatch the first five seasons of Lost beginning to end with my sister during the big blizzards of 2009/2010. She was in the process of moving out of my house, and I told her she couldn't go until she was caught up. Surprisingly, it worked.

The Sopranos. I still haven't finished watching, because a couple videos were missing from my local video store and I refused to watch episodes out of order.

message 3: by Matt (new)

Matt | 819 comments Battlestar Galactica (2004-2009 remake) because it was the most awesome show ever...

Also, if this counts, my former job allowed me to come home for lunch each day and I watched the entire run of La Femme Nikita (mid-1990's version) over the span of a few weeks. Great acting in lieu of a big effects budget, and yes, I prefer my terrorist characters to be suave and European.

I did a mini-marathon of Sex and the City, until such time as I got utterly sick of it and had no desire to ever see another episode.

message 14: by Susieville (new)

Susieville | 24 comments I rented all of the Upstairs/Downstairs series. Fantastic!

Maybe West Wing? I can't remember now if I watched that on TV, or dvds. I know I wasn't watching it as it was airing, for the first few years and maybe longer.

Doctor Who
Hamish Macbeth
The extended versions of LOTRs movies.

My kids are in the middle of a Merlin marathon as I type. They have the current four series and are on school holidays.... I am not a Merlin fan.

Helena | 1058 comments Six Feet Under, Dexter, Carnivale, Hung, True Blood, Sopranos.

I have trouble watching shows when they’re actually on, so I usually wait until the season’s over and have a marathon.

Six Feet Under
Carnivale
Sex & the City
Twin Peaks
The Nancy Drew & Hardy Boys Hour
The Sopranos
Tudors
Law & Order SVU
CSI (I have a bit of a crush on William Peterson)
Freaks & Geeks (WHYYYY did it only last for one season?!)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Angel
Dexter
Weeds
Murder, She Wrote

Witchblade
Moonlight
The Dresden Files
Undeclared
Mad Men
Rome
True Blood

message 29: by Meels (new)

Meels (amelia) I did (own) Six Feet Under for several seasons, but it got old. At some point I just wanted Nate's head to explode already and for everyone else to catch a scorching case of herpes. They made that sexfest hospital show look like a Disney movie!

I have the Dresden Files on my list, but I've only watched one or two. It didn't grab me right away...

I cried like a baby in the last episode of SFU. Jerks.

message 31: by Meels (new)

Meels (amelia) I never got there. I so loved it for the first three seasons, season four lost me and I never watched five.

When Lili Taylor joined the show as a regular and her story arc became a season focus, my interest was renewed. She's a favorite.

message 33: by Meels (new)

Meels (amelia) Yes, but then BRENDA ruins everything...pfft.

(She did rock Muriel's Wedding though.)

That vein popping out on her forehead is so distracting for me.

Meels (amelia) Don't remember "Joe"? Maybe I didn't get that far through 4 th season?

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0857620/ Hilariously bad pick on IMDB!

He's currently Jennifer Aniston's significant other/baby daddy. He is totally hot.

*makes note to add him to the manquarium list*

I watched the first few minutes of American Psycho the other day (just to make sure my laptop DVD player worked) and Justin Theroux was one of Patrick Bateman's rich buds.

That bitch Brenda ruins everything. In the '90s she ruined 90210 for me. What a useless character.

Yeah, I know it was a different Brenda.

message 40: by Lobstergirl, el principe (new)

Lobstergirl | 24255 comments Mod
Oh stop! I loved Brenda from 90210.

message 41: by Meels (new)

Meels (amelia) Phil, Kelly was the "Mean Girl"! And then Valerie came along...pfft. Go back to Saved by the Bell, Valerie.

message 42: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11665 comments She wasn't mean on 90210, just useless. Were there ever any good story arcs with that character, or was she always just mooning over that (way too old to play a high school student) moron in the leather jacket? Of course even he wasn't as old as Gabrielle (30 when the show started).

I loved Jim and Cindy. They were great.

message 43: by Meels (new)

Meels (amelia) All of the Saved by the Bell kids seem to have fizzled. Isn't the Screech kid some kind of loony stand-up ranter that swears and screams at people? Am I thinking of the wrong guy?

message 44: by Lobstergirl, el principe (new)

Lobstergirl | 24255 comments Mod
I wanted to stab Jim, Cindy, and Gabrielle to death. The only thing that could have redeemed their characters was a threesome.

You're thinking of Glenn Beck.

message 46: by Meels (new)

Meels (amelia) I can't even stand to listen to Glenn Beck.

Meels (amelia) Friday Night Lights made my adopted Texas accent come back. :)

message 48: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte Creech | 100 comments The best part about watching marathon style, for me, is that the details from previous seasons are still so fresh that when people ask questions about the current season, I can answer with a well-informed, "No, Jesse bought that house in Season 2" or, "No, Peggy told Pete about the baby in Season 2."

message 49: by evie (new)

evie (ecie) | 4289 comments I can never do that. I blame it on the 'eighties.'

message 50: by Pat (new)

Pat (patb37) I got Firefly from the library and I have been watching it in 3 episode chunks. I wish there was more than the 1 season.
