------------ ORIGINAL OPENING POST FOLLOWS -----------

Hi everyone!

So I wanted to let you all know that I'm going to start up a Canadian spin-off series/"local" hangout this month called Beaver Dreams.

We'll go back and forth each month between either one of the VF picks, or a related book depending on availability.

I don't have a date for this month yet (when I do I'll update it here), but it's likely to be the last week of September or the first of October, on either a Thursday or Friday evening at either 10 or 11pm EST.

We're reading Wicked Edge by Nina Bangs, if you'd like to read along.

This month, I'll be joined by my friend Moniquea Marrion @the_c_bomb, as well as Alex and LadyCello from this group/the Ottawa area.

Hopefully next month we can cover one of the actual books... but if you loved to laugh at Eternal Pleasure, well, so far Wicked Edge is causing me to giggle a lot, so I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Every month may have a different night/time due to my wavering part-time schedule, and I think I'd like to mix up the panelists as well, so let me know in the thread here if you're Canadian and would like to participate, or follow me (@AnimeCanuck) or #BeaverDreams on twitter!

Thanks dudes!

Hehehehe! So I guess this means I do have your blessing/approval? Sweet! (I messaged you about this a week ago, but I realize you're major busy.)

Vicky, could you please add this to the G+ Hangouts in the Local Hangout thread? Canada: Beaver Dreams ? That would be great. :D

EDIT: You totally made my night, Felicia. I'm grinning ear to ear. I mean, I've already had a great day, but this is the cherry on top. Thank you!

Christine (animecanuck) | 410 comments DATE for the first G+ Hangout:

I'm strongly considering Friday September 28th, but depending on work and/or the timing of a show I might be in... It might also be Sept 27th, or Oct 4th or 5th. One of those above dates!

Nancy-Elizabeth (dotnet) | 74 comments Hi Christine,

Sign me up for next month as the QC rep.! Sadly, at this point I don't have the capacity to pick up anything beyond the current VF pick (since I've already bought it).

Love the name. Love the concept. I love to giggle and drink with strangers online, so props to you and organizing such an event for the northerners. I'll definitely be watching this month's to get a feel should you choose to post it.

message 6: by Nancy-Elizabeth (last edited Sep 18, 2012 11:09AM) (new)

Nancy-Elizabeth (dotnet) | 74 comments Oops! Sorry Christine, I just saw your response to me on the other thread. I would indeed be up for popping in should my schedule allow :). Would anyone be interested in a quick hangout meet before the official recorded panel sometime soon? Like this coming Thursday, the 20th?

I'm a bit of a pain schedule-wise because I work in a new media lab/art gallery, so my hours are all over the place. But Thursdays are generally good for me and Fridays frequently bad due to show openings. In fact, I'm going to be in Toronto most of the coming weekends helping prep for the imagineNATIVE film + media arts festival.

Anyway, was so happy to see Felicia commenting here! Made my day as well :). I'm pumped into more seriously pursuing online communities since seeing Will Wheaton at comicon this weekend. He went on and on about how much he loves working with geek&sundry and I was inspired.

Let's do it fellow ...beavers!

As a 30-second gift to you for organizing this, check out my digital doodle of the day:

Teehee ;).

Christine (animecanuck) | 410 comments That's cute, Nancy! I love it! I was thinking of some ways to do something with a beaver or to localize the regular VF symbol, because of that new Edinburgh localization thread... and now seeing this... I think I know a pretty dirty way to combine the two. XD HAHA. Don't know if I'll do it or not, it might be too much. (It's so bad - I'm seriously thinking about it just to post... but yeah, it's so bad!)

Yeah, Friday nights are likely to be bad for me as well 3 out of 4 weeks a month - which is why it'll shift around and I'm not making it a set time. I usher for the opera and ballet, so I work weekends a lot - it's also part of why I'm going for the later start time.

I'd be happy to do a tech test/informal non-recorded hangout first. Sure! (I do work this Thursday, so it'd have to be late, not sure how late.)

EDIT: Thank you Vicky for adding this to the G+ Hangout section! :D

Nancy-Elizabeth (dotnet) | 74 comments Hmmm...You've intrigued me now Christine. I must see this combo logo! Even if only in a private message because it is too saucy to post here ;).

message 9: by Christine (new)

Christine (animecanuck) | 410 comments Oh, I think I'd still post it here... I just wouldn't use it on the video at all.

Maybe I'll work on it and post it later tonight, after I've gone out and run all my errands.

You saw it!? I made the Edinburgh VF Logo ^_^ Sorry to spam your thread but I was wondering what you thought? Also, awesome name for your own hangout ^_^

Little known fact, I filmed a table read of a film that was supposed to be called "Beaver Fever"!

message 11: by Nancy-Elizabeth (new)

Nancy-Elizabeth (dotnet) | 74 comments Fi wrote: "You saw it!? I made the Edinburgh VF Logo"

Hiyah Fi! So now I REALLY have to see this Edinburgh logo! I searched the facebook page but couldn't find it. Is there a link elsewhere we can look at per chance?

message 12: by Christine (new)

Christine (animecanuck) | 410 comments Yeah! I saw it. I thought it was rather nice, and it made me think of replacing the book for a vagina line, with a MAPLE LEAF as vagina hair. Red leaf, white body, red sides - just like our flag. TEE HEE. Although, it loses the book, which was what was so clever and book-club-y about the logo in the first place. I just haven't sat down to try any of these things. (Something to do tonight... fun in Photoshop and then lots of uploading to Photobucket!)

It was in regular "off topic" or "Vaginal Fantasy" discussions - the thread is called LOGO LOCALIZATIONS or something like that...

Anyways, hopefully my next 2 weeks schedule will come out soon, so I can announce what night we'll meet on, and at what time. ^_^

message 13: by Christine (new)

Christine (animecanuck) | 410 comments For anyone (Alex, Nancy, Lady Cello) who needs to do a technical test for the Hangout in a week or two, we're doing one at 11pm EST tomorrow (FRIDAY the 21st) night.

message 14: by Nancy-Elizabeth (new)

Nancy-Elizabeth (dotnet) | 74 comments Arg! I would have LOVED to, but tonight the husband and I are heading off for a much-needed, mini vacation out in the boonies where I assume wireless won't be available :(.

Because I am only due to be a guest this month, if you could do a quick test with me sometime in the week (or Sunday) just to check quality, I would greatly appreciate it. Sorry for being lame.

I have about 3 different webcam/mic options that I'd like to test and explore. The geek&sundry meta-dating hangouts annoy me to watch because the main guy doesn't seem to realize that his mic cuts out every time some one else speaks. Wouldn't want that to happen in our hangouts. Also, I've always been a Skype girl and have never use Google Hangout. I'd love to have some experience with it before being recorded to avoid any embarrassing mishaps (eg: when Veronica accidentally posted the join link on her twitter feed hahaha).

message 15: by Lex (new)

Lex | 27 comments I would love to participate sometime, but I have usually crashed by ten pm!

message 16: by Christine (new)

Christine (animecanuck) | 410 comments Tech test starting now for the next 20 minutes or so. :D

message 17: by Nancy-Elizabeth (last edited Sep 24, 2012 05:55AM) (new)

Nancy-Elizabeth (dotnet) | 74 comments I have returned from my foray into the wilderness with the gift of a cold. Fresh air and no internet is officially not good for me.

Is it possible to do another tech test this week? Ideally, sometime earlier than 10pm so that Lex can also participate? And when we gonna see that logo, Christine? ;)

message 18: by Christine (new)

Christine (animecanuck) | 410 comments Hi Everyone!

The HANGOUT this month will be Friday SEPTEMBER 28th at 11PM EST!

Hopefully this is enough notice!

I'll post the link to view it here when we're live. :D

message 19: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (ladycello) Thanks for the confirmation :)

I managed to plow through the rest of the book yesterday. I'll be set to give a comparison of the two books if desired.

message 20: by Christine (new)

Christine (animecanuck) | 410 comments Awesome! I would love that. I'll try to make sure to bring it up!

message 21: by Christine (last edited Sep 25, 2012 09:55PM) (new)

Christine (animecanuck) | 410 comments To give everyone a head's up - next month I'm (we're) going to read Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder... I'm 26th in line for holds at the library, though, so here's hoping I can actually get my hands on it in time! Or maybe if Felicia changes the other book... that instead (/too?)...

If you get your hands on Master of Crows and read that, we can bring that up too, but I doubt I'll have read it.

message 22: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (ladycello) I can get both through Kobo, and if I'll endeavour to read both. I kinda hope though that the main gets switched because Poison Study does look more interesting to me, and I had it on my to-read list. I'm not picky about having lots of sexy times if the book is a really good one.

I haven't watched the VF hangout yet but I saw on Twitter this morning that Beaver Dreams got a shout out! Good promo work, Christine! :)

message 23: by Nancy-Elizabeth (new)

Nancy-Elizabeth (dotnet) | 74 comments Yayyyyy!! I'm watching the hangout right now at work and just heard Felicia's shout out to us! Woooooooo!

message 24: by Alex (new)

Alex Mayer (alex_mayer) | 209 comments I expect I will have both books read by the end of the month without issue. Provided I can find them easily. Commence googling...

message 25: by Nancy-Elizabeth (new)

Nancy-Elizabeth (dotnet) | 74 comments Poison Study IS OFFICIALLY DOWNLOADED from Kobo. Really looking forward to this one :).

message 26: by Christine (new)

Christine (animecanuck) | 410 comments Just a reminder - the G+ Hangout is tonight at 11pm EST. I'll add the link tonight when we go live! :D

(I'm seriously working on finishing the book now! Hah!)

message 27: by Christine (last edited Sep 28, 2012 10:58PM) (new)

Christine (animecanuck) | 410 comments Hey everyone! Sorry I'm late, just got home. Anyway, the live feed of our Canadian G+ Hangout should be starting in a matter of minutes here on my YouTube page!

I'll be responding to comments/questions at #BeaverDreams on twitter, and I'll do my best to look at comments on YouTube as well - but that's more difficult.

EDIT: The finished Hangout is here!

Hope you all enjoy it!

message 28: by Nancy-Elizabeth (new)

Nancy-Elizabeth (dotnet) | 74 comments I AM BACK! Cannot wait to check out the hangout. Just finished Poison Study (it was impossible to put down!) and I look forward to discussing it all with you guys later this month.

message 29: by Christine (new)

Christine (animecanuck) | 410 comments Awesome! I'm still waiting for it. I have this weird vision of the future where I'm only moderating and hosting, but haven't read it! XD

message 30: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (ladycello) A friend of mine showed this to me today. I thought other Canadians might appreciate this.. so long as they don't mind laughing at themselves a little ;)

message 31: by Milly (new)

Milly | 1 comments LadyCello wrote: "A friend of mine showed this to me today. I thought other Canadians might appreciate this.. so long as they don't mind laughing at themselves a little ;)"

That was actually really creative and hilarious :D Thanks for sharing!

message 32: by Nancy-Elizabeth (new)

Nancy-Elizabeth (dotnet) | 74 comments Annnnddd now that "Wanna be Canadian" song is going to be stuck in my head all day. Thanks. :P

On another note: I'm gearing up for our NEXT hangout. One in which I actually intend to participate if it is within my power. Any thoughts on what date would be best?

message 33: by Christine (last edited Oct 03, 2012 05:02PM) (new)

Christine (animecanuck) | 410 comments Haha, that video is a lot of fun. I was totally expecting an Arrogant Worms song/video. Especially "Canada's Really Big" (just the music basically: ).

Like this: Rocks and Trees by Arrogant Worms (not the video I was looking for, but a decent substitute.)

Nancy - to answer your question, hopefully I will get my schedule this Saturday, and I will have some idea soon after that. I could be a week off, though. Once again, I'll be aiming for a Thurs or Fri at 10 or 11pm EST.

message 34: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (ladycello) The Arrogant Worms are great! I personally like "Carrot Juice is Murder" :)

I've been mildly obsessed with trying to figure out some of the locations in the Canadian Dance Moves video. Where is that beaver dam located??? (I lived in Toronto a few years and I don't recall seeing it).

I look forward to getting onto Poison Study and talking about it next hangout. Hopefully I can make the next one again. If I can't would you like me to submit my review?

message 35: by Christine (new)

Christine (animecanuck) | 410 comments Hi LadyCello! Carrot Juice is Murder is MY FAVOURITE Arrogant Worms song. *nods empharically* I've only been in Toronto a year and a half myself, so most of the nature-y locations/parks I don't recognize. 50% of the video I recognize at most - I don't really remember, I'd have to watch it again. XD

Sure, if you can't make it and really want to say something about it, private message me, and I'll read it on-air.

About that - the date that works the best for me is Friday October 26th - BUT, with a catch... I'm also performing that night, so... how would people feel about starting the hangout at MIDNIGHT (EST)? It is a Friday, and the night most people would be likely to go to Halloween parties as well...

Alex, LadyCello, and Nancy-Elizabeth, you three are my co-hosts (so far) this month, so is that time okay for you? Or two late? Possibly as early as 11:45 if I can rush out of Comedy Bar fast enough.

Please let me know ASAP... if that doesn't work I either have to decline performing (BOO!) or figure out a different evening to do it. I get home at roughly 11:30-midnight from work too... so the other option would have to be Sunday or Monday night, which is awkward and before most people's workdays, right?

Also does this Thursday evening work as a tech-test for Nancy-Elizabeth and Alex? Feel free to respond here or in a message. Thanks! :D

And I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! :D

message 36: by Alex (new)

Alex Mayer (alex_mayer) | 209 comments I am good with those dates/times. I just finished the book and actually have notes this time.

message 37: by Nancy-Elizabeth (new)

Nancy-Elizabeth (dotnet) | 74 comments Hey peeps,

Tonight should be okay for a tech test. I'm working late to make up a sick day so I should be home around 10 pm.

As for the hangout, my vote is a weird one. I worry I'm going to be dead to the world and boring at midnight on the 26th especially since my office always has a 5 a 7 drinking celebration on Fridays :S. Besides that concern, I am indeed available. Otherwise, even though it's a work night, I'm perfectly fine with the Monday or Sunday option if it's at 8 or 9pm. In fact, I'd prefer it. At 26 years old, I'm becoming an old lady who conks out at 10 pm usually.

I will roll with the majority of course and am looking forward to it either way :).

message 38: by Celine (new)

Celine | 25 comments I'll probably be in the comments section, whenever it is. I've only read Poison Study, though. Couldn't get ahold of Master Of Crows.

message 39: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (ladycello) Hello

For the next hangout I would be good with what Nancy-Elizabeth suggested for an earlier hangout on either a Sunday or Monday night. Unfortunately the 26th won't be a go for me. If I happen that I can't make the next hangout I can still send in a summary review of the book.

I might not be able to squeeze in Master of Crows before the hangout, but I'll try. I'm finding myself hooked on non-VF book right now (Lamb: the Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal).

message 40: by Nancy-Elizabeth (new)

Nancy-Elizabeth (dotnet) | 74 comments Arg. For some reason I'm not getting emails anymore when people reply to this feed even though I'm subscribed. Boo.

Any conclusion set for this yet? I'm still very happy with earlier Sunday or Monday if the 26th doesn't work out.

message 41: by Christine (new)

Christine (animecanuck) | 410 comments I was planning on doing it tomorrow night (Fri Oct 26) at Midnight, because when I first mentioned it, everyone (or at least one person) seemed good with that. Now I'm hearing a lot of people wanting Sunday or Monday instead... Er... Nancy, LadyCello, and Alex, I need to know for you three for sure. Is Monday Night at 11pm better than tomorrow at midnight? (I'd rather do tomorrow) Please let me know. (Sorry for being absent...)

message 42: by Alex (new)

Alex Mayer (alex_mayer) | 209 comments I am honestly fine with either. I have both nights free.

message 43: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (ladycello) Unfortunately I'm on call for my workplace overnight on the 26th, so I can't commit that night (if I wasn't on call there definitely wouldn't be a problem).

As for Sunday or Monday, 11pm is unfortunately too late for me to start a hangout as I have to wake up for work at 5am. I think for this month I'll have to sit out but I will happily send you my book review Christine. I'll PM it to you tomorrow morning.

message 44: by Christine (new)

Christine (animecanuck) | 410 comments Another possibility is to do it much earlier on Monday - perhaps from 6:30 or 7 until 8 or 8:30? I have to make sure to wrap it up by 8:20(ish) by the latest to run out. I would really love to include you again. Does this also work for you Nancy-Elizabeth and Alex? If it doesn't, we will stick with MIDNIGHT EST tomorrow (Friday 26). Please let me know by 8pm tomorrow night. Thanks! :D

Also, Welcome, Celine! If you have a camera and don't mind being recorded to YouTube, you can join us if you wish - we're mostly talking about Poison Study.

message 45: by Nancy-Elizabeth (new)

Nancy-Elizabeth (dotnet) | 74 comments Monday works better for me if only because I'll be sure to be awake lol! Otherwise, I'll see you tomorrow - which is also fine. Please don't re-schedule anything just cause of me.

I have a feeling I'll be up late tonight anyway desperately trying to finish my Halloween costume for a party on Sat. Sewing/book club par-tay!

message 46: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (ladycello) I could definitely do an earlier hangout on Monday, but if majority prefer tonight that is fine. I'll type out my review right now and PM it to you Christine, so if the hangout goes on tonight you can use it if it fits in with the discussion.

message 47: by Christine (new)

Christine (animecanuck) | 410 comments Okay!

Monday night at 6:30pm it is!

Discussing POISON STUDY and maybe touching on Magic Study and/or Master of Crows Monday, October 29th!

message 48: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (ladycello) Okie dokie!

I'll see if I can get Master of Crows plowed through by then. I'll set aside "Biff" for the weekend.

message 49: by Christine (new)

Christine (animecanuck) | 410 comments Alright! in that case, I'll see about reading that preview of Master of Crows I've had on my desktop all month.

message 50: by Alex (new)
