It was a funny story, well, true not fiction, and I loved the way he had his feet firmly on the ground all the way through.

The other thing that came through really well was, if you are going to buy or invest in a business, make sure the market is big enough to sustain it. This was something he did but too late.


What stuck with me was him watching porn with his brother while his wife and kid were in another room... that's just wrong even if it is work research!

I've not read it, but I suspect that's the case. The business model has changed from the earlier days of t'internet, with the advent of various free services - that I won't even name because I'm at work - people's expectations have shifted. There's still a huge appetite for 'adult content', but people have, by and large, stopped paying for it.

The problem was, when he tried to sell the magazine to a publishing group that could employ economies of scale, those with porn titles weren't interested, because it wasnt smutty enough, whilst others wouldn't touch any kind of porn title. Also, the market for that type of magazine was quite small, but with high production costs.
