Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (Snibborg) | 9019 comments It seems I'm the only one who's read this.

Helloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo?

Kath Middleton | 24032 comments Hellooooo - I read it too!
It was a funny story, well, true not fiction, and I loved the way he had his feet firmly on the ground all the way through.

Philip (sarah) Willis | 5175 comments I read this ages ago so have forgotten most of it! I did enjoy the book at the time and the parts that stayed with me were the blind proof reader and the classification for pornography.

You are nooooot aloooone Geoff!

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (Snibborg) | 9019 comments Some of his descriptions made me laugh. His web site, Posh Totty and Grotty Totty, we hilarious, in my opinion.

The other thing that came through really well was, if you are going to buy or invest in a business, make sure the market is big enough to sustain it. This was something he did but too late.

Patti (baconater) (Goldengreene) | 61383 comments Okay, I admit I've not read it and doubt I will but are you inferring that the porn market isn't big enough to sustain a business???

Jud (Judibud) | 17949 comments I quite enjoyed it, it was a nice change from the normal type of book that I read and it was quite funny in a tongue in cheek kind of way.

What stuck with me was him watching porn with his brother while his wife and kid were in another room... that's just wrong even if it is work research!

I've not read it, but I suspect that's the case. The business model has changed from the earlier days of t'internet, with the advent of various free services - that I won't even name because I'm at work - people's expectations have shifted. There's still a huge appetite for 'adult content', but people have, by and large, stopped paying for it.

Patti (baconater) (Goldengreene) | 61383 comments Oh right.

So ummm

Give us those names when you get home, k?

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (Snibborg) | 9019 comments No. The problem with this outfit was that it was aimed at the subtle nudity that was available in the 70's and viewed by blokes my age. The problem is that we are, quite literally, a dying audience.

The problem was, when he tried to sell the magazine to a publishing group that could employ economies of scale, those with porn titles weren't interested, because it wasnt smutty enough, whilst others wouldn't touch any kind of porn title. Also, the market for that type of magazine was quite small, but with high production costs.

Patti (baconater) (Goldengreene) | 61383 comments Oh so was a playboy rip off was it?

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (Snibborg) | 9019 comments Not really, no. More lacy without the inflatable boobs.

Patti (baconater) (Goldengreene) | 61383 comments Oh.

Jugs.

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (Snibborg) | 9019 comments Silicone jugs, yes. Hefner had a certain type, blonde with big boobs. This seems more varied and British.

Patti (baconater) (Goldengreene) | 61383 comments Oh.

Requiring dental work.

Kath Middleton | 24032 comments I thought it was good to have a biography. We do read a lot of fiction here (mind you I love fiction - real life's too, er, real).

message 17: by Jud (new)

Jud (Judibud) | 17949 comments Especially when that real life contains Grotty Totty.

Yeuch

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (Snibborg) | 9019 comments Lol Jud, you know that'll end up in fiction really soon now?
