Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 1179 comments If nobody else volunteers I will but I'd prefer not to I'm hosting TCF's Words with GR friends and it's pretty time consuming since there's so many players. But if nobody else wants to I will. :)

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 1902 comments Or if multiple volunteers, guess we could always hit random.org and see what Mr. Randomizer does for us. I don't know any of our team yet and have no clue what time zones the team players who have not posted are in.

message 16: by JennyWren (last edited Sep 12, 2012 03:15PM) (new)

JennyWren (guinivere87) | 174 comments Hello everyone. Can't wait to get started. I'm a Book Shelf Bingo Virgin by the way :-) but I'm very excited to play.

My time zone is GMT. Anyone else?

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 1902 comments Hi Jennifer. Pretty simple to play—next big step is just waiting for shelf announcement on Saturday or Sunday (depending on your time zone).

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 1902 comments Well, between now and then we decide on team name and Captain. Captain tracks books read for shelf and requests BINGO card stamps.

message 19: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (Reading is Better With Cupcakes) (imjustcupcake) | 255 comments Pretty excited that the teams have been posted =) I too haven't played the game before.

My big question is, do we have to have the book completed in the week, or if it takes us a tad bit longer, does it still count? That is really the only rule I am not 100% clear on.

Also, I would prefer not to be the captain, esp since this is my first time. Also, I live in PST...

message 20: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 23518 comments No time limit on reading Stephanie, just the pressure ie thumb screws applied by fellow team members. LOL.

message 21: by Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) (last edited Sep 12, 2012 05:32PM) (new)

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 1902 comments No pressure or rush until we have four stamps in a row. Even then not until the fifth-in-a-row-BINGO-winning shelf gets called and we get in a race with another team (no race, no pressure, LOL).

Absolutely no rule about how long to read a book. And, if you start reading a stinker you can switch--just post here so captain can track.

message 22: by Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) (last edited Sep 12, 2012 05:31PM) (new)

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 1902 comments Amber, did you play before?

Guess we'll wait for captain selecting and name finalizing until Kerstin posts. And absolutely no rules as to when you post except the check-in-once-a-week by posting on your team's thread one buried in the main rules somewhere. All the different time zones ... ack!

A couple of questions from my last team -- yes, more than one team member can read the same book; and, yes, anthologies count.

And now that I'm looking for it, I can't find the thread post stating minimum number of pages. Anyone remember or have the thread link? I thought I saw somewhere books had to be 250 pages minimum (but could be confusing with a different challenge).

If Jenne and I are only ones who played before and Jenne busy -- I can be captain. No hurt feelings either way and I'm not a "captain"-y person (or I would have volunteered right away); I'm self-employed and pretty much stay on computer except for the occasional Saturday meeting 10 am to 2 pm eastern time (or shorter; they know I will walk out of a meeting-to-schedule-more-meetings meeting; I actually have a signed written contract saying I will do so).

message 23: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 1179 comments I think the page limit is 200.

@ DEBORAH- I have played 3 rounds and lost all 3. I'm ready to WIN this one!!! GO THEAM 3 :o)

message 26: by Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) (last edited Sep 12, 2012 07:17PM) (new)

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 1902 comments Yup, found it again (and confirmed in discussion thread). I am wrong and y'all are right -- 200 is the minimum number of pages for a book to qualify.

If listening to audio book or an ebook without page numbers -- page numbers are from whatever edition pops up when you search for title on goodreads.

(Last time, right up until final shelf called, was such a race I had visions of losing by the team captain hitting "over capacity" error messages every time she tried to post.)

message 27: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (Reading is Better With Cupcakes) (imjustcupcake) | 255 comments I can see though that if you take too long to finish, you end up up drowning in books trying to keep up though.

message 28: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 1179 comments I wonder if Keirsten knows the team threads are up?

message 29: by Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) (last edited Sep 12, 2012 07:59PM) (new)

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 1902 comments Stephanie wrote: "I can see though that if you take too long to finish, you end up up drowning in books trying to keep up though."

Yeah, but as cards fill if you are backlogged you can prioritize by which "stamp" is most needed. Someone asked last time and for the win you only have to have the 5 in a line finished and stamped; can win even without all called shelves stamped. (I am not completely sure that is fair to teams who kept up all along and just drew crappy cards...but that's what moderators said)

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 1902 comments She was signup message 86 and it says she did play before so she may or may not want to volunteer as captain. I am not "friend" and her profile set to private so cannot see her time zone info or send her a message.

Likely just a time zone thing. Is anyone a friend that could send just one message letting her know teams selected?

message 32: by Jenne (new)

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 1902 comments I'm reading a while then off to sleep myself. Will check back in tomorrow. Guess we really don't have to worry about until day shelf called.

message 34: by Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) (last edited Sep 12, 2012 10:52PM) (new)

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 1902 comments Mind wandering 'cause book reading switches POVs right before the long awaited action scene...team name Three Times The Luck, Three to Win, Triple Threat, Three-pronged somethung...said was wandering not that I landed on anything good.

message 35: by Kerstin (new)

Kerstin | 862 comments Hi everyone! Nice to meet you all. I'm in Australia, so I tend to be the one that drops in at odd times, sorry :(

This is my third round so far, but I'm not too keen on being the captain to be honest. Concerning team names, I like Triple Dog Dare Ya, Triple the trouble and Three Times The Luck..., I'm very easy going with the names but not very creative in making up my own.

Looking forward to this round and playing with you all!

message 36: by JennyWren (new)

JennyWren (guinivere87) | 174 comments Tripple Threat sounds great. Battle ready and all that.

Hi Kerstin :-)

message 37: by Kerstin (new)

Kerstin | 862 comments Hey Jennifer! Tripple Threat does sound good. Choices, choices...

message 38: by Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) (last edited Sep 13, 2012 03:26AM) (new)

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 1902 comments I'm back. Am I captain? I think Jenne said she would but was busy with another team thing, I said I would if no one else wanted ?

Unless anyone has more suggestions I guess we are voting on team name choices of: Triple Dog Dare Ya, Triple the Trouble, Three Times The Luck, Terrific 3's, 3-Dog Night, and Triple Threat?

I like Triple Dog Dare Ya, Three Times The Luck or Triple Threat or a new suggestion if anyone has a brainstorm

message 39: by JennyWren (new)

JennyWren (guinivere87) | 174 comments Yes, oh captain my captain.

message 40: by JennyWren (new)

JennyWren (guinivere87) | 174 comments I'm for Tripple Threat or 3-Dog Night sounds good too.

message 41: by Kerstin (new)

Kerstin | 862 comments Thanks for captaining, Deborah.

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 1902 comments LOL (*thinks more secretary type of job than "captain"*).

Guess we'll have team name voted on as everyone wakes up and chimes in with their vote.

I'm off to replace message 9 with what will be our team shelf overview so is closer to BINGO card (basically just said I played once before and some half-a*^# attempts at team name)

message 43: by Amber (new)

Amber (crazyaboutbooks) | 499 comments I like(Triple Dog Dare Ya)and(3-Dog Night). These Two have my vote. You will make a great leader Deborah, I would since senior player but I'm going to be very busy the rest of this month and wont have time to. Never fear though I always have time to read LOL.

message 44: by JennyWren (last edited Sep 13, 2012 04:51AM) (new)

JennyWren (guinivere87) | 174 comments So far we have: (likes not votes)

3-Dog Night (Amber, Deborah, Jennifer)
Triple Dog Dare Ya (Amber, Deborah, Kerstin)
Triple Threat (Deborah, Kerstin, Jennifer)
Three Times Luck (Deborah, Kerstin)

These seem to be ideas with more than one "yay".
Anything missing? Am I making this too compicated?

message 45: by Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) (last edited Sep 13, 2012 05:05AM) (new)

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 1902 comments No, not too complicated. I think we're going to be an easygoing team so votes and decisions are hard.

Hmmm...I will narrow my vote down to one -- I think I like "Triple Threat" the best.

(Durn, now am thinking "Triple Treat" and wanting a three-scoop ice cream cone)

message 46: by Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) (last edited Sep 13, 2012 05:05AM) (new)

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 1902 comments And at any time during entire BINGO game, please feel free to post your free space choice--just don't start reading until this weekend's shelf announcement.

For newbies -- that's one of three choices (1) any book off the SOS group bookshelves, (2) SOS group's book of the month (any month while game is in play), or (3) SOS current or archived new release threads (there's a thread explaining here ).

Just post the book and which of the three options you picked from.
