Justine Monikue (justinemonikue) | 11 comments I design my own book covers (as I'm sure a lot of self published authors do), but I do have a degree in digital design. If anyone is interested in having me create their Snook covers, than please view my profile for examples of my work.

Rebecca Zeno (becca_zeno54) How do you create your own designs? I just want to do them for fun and I don't want to buy anything like a software. I have been searching for directions but just can't seem to find any. They could be as easy as- 1. go to picasa 2.create your work- or something. (I don't think picasa works for book covers though, but I haven't totally explored that)

Thank you for helping!
Rebecca :)

Kevin (kevinhallock) | 40 comments If you're looking for an book cover artist, I highly recommend Steven Novak (novakillustration.com). He did the cover for my short story and I'm definitely looking forward to working with him again.

Susanna (susannashore) | 1 comments @Rebecca. Try Gimp. You can download it for free (just google it). It takes a year or ten to learn how to use, but once you do, you can do with it almost everything you can do with Photoshop. Basics should be fairly easy to learn though.

L.Y. Levand (lylevand) Thanks for the tip, Kevin. :) I'll check it out!

You can always crowdsource your design too at 99designs.com. The way that site works is your post a description and a bounty. People then come up with designs. I've submitted a couple designs as a designer and am really thinking of using them as an author.

I can do great layouts and photo manipulations, just can't draw worth beans . . . :)

Jeanette (goodreadscomlifeandliterature) | 12 comments I had a photographer friend of mine do it. She's phenomenal and I'm so glad I decided to go with her. Check it out: http://adventuresoflifeandliterature....

Karl Drinkwater (karldrinkwater) I created my own originally, but then found that working with a professional gives much better results. I did this for my first book, and covered the process of coming up with a final cover in my blog posts.

[The original cover can be see nhere: http://karldrinkwater.blogspot.com/20...]

I'll do a similar series of posts for the cover evolution of my new book at some point, since I find it fascinating to see what a professional can do.

message 20: by Rochelle (new)

Rochelle Ragnarok (rochrok) Some of my covers I've designed myself using shutterstock pics and photoshop Elements

This one I'm really proud of cause I had to use multiple pics for different effects.

Here:
Hell City Hills by Rochelle H. Ragnarok

Then I have a series where I hired an artist (Candra) to draw the cover while I added the titles et al.

Here's one of them:

The Boy with the Koi Tattoo (Boys in Love #2) by Rochelle H. Ragnarok

I admit I'm really getting into creating covers. Although I'm not confident enough to design other people's covers. I hope that if I keep practicing I can offer some for sale one day. I really like those premade covers! :D

message 21: by Marta (new)

Marta (ineedabookcover) | 7 comments I do custom print & eBook covers mostly but have decided to offer premade covers as well, it helps my creativity flow and sharpens my design skills. Here are samples of the premade covers:

You can buy them at http://www.selfpubbookcovers.com/INee...
