message 1: by Judithe, Soap Operas never end.... (last edited Sep 17, 2012 07:19AM) (new)

Judithe | 6371 comments As we're wrapping up R5 and getting ready to start R6, some ideas for future Bingo shelves have popped up in the discussion threads. If you have an idea for a future BookShelf Bingo shelf that you want to read, please let us know!

R6 shelves have been chosen, so these are for consideration in R7 and later! Thanks for your ideas!

Things to keep in mind when making suggestions, please try to keep shelf names closely related to PNR, UF, fantasy, sci-fi-ish topics . Of course, some shelves will have all genres (heroine, assassin, etc) and some have been used in past rounds of Bingo~no problem! Feel free to add it so we know what people are interested in.

Shelves should have a minimum of 1,000 books so people can have a choice/not have to scramble to buy/borrow a book to complete that shelf. If you've found a specific shelf to recommend, please let us know the exact name (i.e., there "vampire" and "vampires" shelves).

Ideas for "personal" shelves should be fairly wide as well.

How about Dystopian, Horror or Paranormal Mystery or maybe even Zombies, I think they would be fun to try out :)

message 7: by Judithe, Soap Operas never end.... (new)

Judithe | 6371 comments Hmmm...interesting! I'm thinking we might have seen one or two of those previously, but definitely good ones to try out (though I'm personally not so sure about zombies...)

well darn. I tried Destined Mates, fated, bonded and a few others and none have enough books. Oh well. It's a favorite plot line of mine.

What is the minimum to be concidered? I know male lead last time had less than 1000 and most were manga. In case I come up with something else.

Where do you find the shelves and the numbers - are you navigating from a book you know is shelved as such? (that is what I do, just wondering if there is a better way)

message 21: by AH (new)

AH | 2271 comments Great lists - freebies would help out my bloated TBR, but that's just me.

Cyberpunk, fairy tales, banned books, gods or godesses, mythology, gargoyles, slipstream,

Not sure how many books are on those shelves.

message 22: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Thank you. :)

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments What's the minimum number of books needed in order for the shelf to make it on to the list for consideration?

message 26: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 23518 comments Around the 1000 mark would be minimum ;)

message 30: by Mary C (new)

Mary C (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2427 comments freebies might be hard for players with no ereaders or an ereader that isn't a Nook or a Kindle. Yes they could read them on a computer but still might be hard for some. I know reading on a computer kills my eyes.

I love the paranormal mystery one. I read a lot of those.

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

Fairies or Fae
Gods/Goddesses
Wishlist

message 32: by ★Meghan★ (new)

★Meghan★ (starinheaven) | 541 comments I was thinking more along the lines of a personal shelf called Freebie. It was discussed in R5 Discussion thread I think. This was just going to be a book that you didn't pay for. i.e. ereader freebie, library book, gift, etc.

message 33: by AH (new)

AH | 2271 comments Freebies could be a library or borrowed book.

Amy ~Lover of Books~ | 400 comments Also:

realistic fiction: 56,483

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 1902 comments How about a shelf/stamp where you have to choose off the SOS bookshelf? There's quite a few goodies there.

Is there a thread somewhere with what the current shelf possibilites for the current rounds of BINGO are? (*shudders* I so do not want to read straight up horror or psychological thriller—so hope those shelves are like most and have a bunch of books oddly shelved)

message 36: by Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) (last edited Sep 08, 2012 12:03PM) (new)

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 1902 comments I like "space opera" shelf if not already a choice.

I could not find a shelf for, but maybe a personal choice of "paranormal with pets"?

It could be interesting to come up with some sort of way for teams to pick for each other like some of the penpal/buddy read things (definitely with a page number limit) - maybe each team paired with an opposing team and each names a dozen books from which opposing team members choose from (and if book named is in a series and already read it would be okay to read the next unread book in series).

Not married to this incarnation of the concept, just thinking it could be fun to have just one shelf/stamp where something was being picked for you. A little leery of it being just one book versus a choice (possibly add that books chosen for opponents should be ones you gave at least a three star rating).

message 37: by Dragana (new)

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) | 320 comments I hope some of these shelves have enough books on them, they sound interesting:
- unicorns (943 books)
- mermaids (2,961 books)
- good-writing ( 2,608 books)

For the Free Space you can read a book off the SOS bookshelf.

Perhaps someone could develop a different team game based on that idea.

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 1902 comments Christina (AKA Babbling) wrote: "Perhaps someone could develop a different team game based on that idea. ..."

Yeah...I got stuck after thinking could be interesting to have opposing team select for you. Right now, I think could be fun and a way to discover something you might not have read otherwise. But, other teams could be sly enough to find a way to stuff in something really horrid to get thru -- so I may eat my words.

message 41: by Literary Ames (new)

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments That idea sounds similar to Pick It For Me in RRRC.

message 42: by Judithe, Soap Operas never end.... (new)

Judithe | 6371 comments Lots of interesting ideas! Keep them coming!

About shelves, remember also, that SOS is "is the place to find and chat about your favorite PNR & UF series...and fantasy series", so we'll probably lean more to those in shelf selection, but all ideas are still good!

message 43: by Judithe, Soap Operas never end.... (new)

Judithe | 6371 comments Mary wrote: "Bonded/fated mates.

Yep....those are a little short, but somewhat similar "soul mates" is closer to the 1000 mark. I'll throw that out as inspired by you.

message 44: by AH (last edited Sep 08, 2012 04:15PM) (new)

AH | 2271 comments What about guilty pleasures - it has around 3000+ books.
Turned into a movie - 3000+

message 45: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 23518 comments I personally wouldn't like a shelf based on someone else picking for me, that's why I've never joined RRRC's PIFM challenge. I'm too mood based. lol

message 46: by ★Meghan★ (new)

★Meghan★ (starinheaven) | 541 comments A couple other general ones that have plenty of pnr and uf books are 'nook', 'kindle', 'ebook', 'to buy', 'own', 'want to read', etc.

Christina (AKA Babbling) (babblingbookreviews) | 1217 comments Mary wrote: "I love the paranormal mystery one. I read a lot of those..."

We had that one in Round 4. It got called, too. :) (Now I have figure out/look up what I read for that shelf because it's driving me nuts...).

message 48: by Steph, Just keep swimming … (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 28446 comments Great suggestions, everyone! Thanks, Judithe, for creating this thread. I love having everyone involved in the creation of the board. Thanks for trying to keep shelf names closely related to PNR, UF, fantasy, sci-fi-ish topics. Some, such as heroine, wishlist, etc, are universal and would include all genres. Some of these have been used in previous rounds, but haven't made a reappearance. But, now that I know ya'll are interested in seeing them, I'll reuse them in the future. Having a minimum of 1,000 books on the shelf is helpful because it limits the chances of someone having to buy a book for a specific shelf.

Keep those suggestions coming! :D

message 49: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 23518 comments How about color covers - obviously would have to be a personal book choice, unless people have shelves for that?

message 50: by Judithe, Soap Operas never end.... (new)

Judithe | 6371 comments Hmmm...one to definitely check into!
