I'm reading The Blinding Knife, which maybe one of the most original fantasy I've read in quite a while.
I'm continuing to read the entire Shannara series by Terry Brooks. I'm less than 100 pages away from completing the fourth novel in the epic series.
I love Terry Brooks. His novels very rarely disappoint me. My favourite among his many series is Genesis of Shannara. He develops the characters of the band of kids surviving in a terribly dystopic world really well.I am currently reading Roger Zelazny's The Chronicles of Amber and George RR Martin's A Game of Thrones. I have read hundreds of fantasy novels and yet never read these two classics. So much to look forward to.

I'm just about done with book 1 Roma Mater. I am loving it. It is a complex read and even though I have studied the era involved, I've been reading it with Wikipedia open on my iPad. There's a good bit of history and matters Roman, but it's mythic aspect is quite complex and syncretic. The Ysan mythology/religion is based on 3 deities representing sky, earth an water and these deities or aspects are related to those from Persian, Greek, Roman, Teutonic and Celtic cultures. Underlying it all is the Earth Mother going back to prehistoric times times. It has all been carefully worked out by the Andersons and consistent with various mythologies we know about in the West (including the Middle East).
I am finding it very engaging thus far.
I read all the Shannara books about 7 years ago while convalescing. Now there are more and I feel I need to get to them.
I read His Majesty's Dragon and liked it so much I went on to read the rest of the series. Loved it. Can't wait for the next.
I just finished The Rook which I really enjoyed and now doing Discovery of Witches (not sure if its my thing yet).@Kernow I read the King of Ys years ago but cant recall liking it I may drag it back for a reread.
@Frank Love the Amber books and GOT not too shabby either so enjoy.
@Sandra Temeraire as its known in the Uk was not a bad read how are the other books?

I enjoyed them all a great deal.
Still rereading WOT, I'm now up to Winter's Heart which I remember as being my least favourite in the series, containing about 2000 pages of Perrin being indecisive in the woods, but I did like Path of Daggers more than I did when it was released, so maybe WH will seem better in comparison too.

After finishing book three of the Malazan series I'm going for the fourth book, House of Chains. Probably will pickup new novel from Sanderson too, Legion.
Igor wrote: "After finishing book three of the Malazan series I'm going for the fourth book, House of Chains. So far this month I've readOnyx
Legion
I'm currently reading
Finnikin of the Rock
The Night Circus
His Majesty's Dragon
I should be done with them by the middle of this coming week, receiving these next two titles in the mail on Tuesday. Anxious to start them! :D
Stormdancer
The Raven Boys
And if I finish those 2 before the month ends, I'll be squeezing in next month's club read of
Libriomancer
I just rediscovered my childhood collection of Tintin and Asterix books. I'm re-reading those right now. Great stuff! Not exactly fantasy, I suppose...I'm going to tackle some Brent Weeks next.
Bev wrote: "Stick with it the last book is nigh! "That's the plan! :) I stopped reading WOT when Jordan passed away, so I've never read any of the Sanderson books, so I suppose it's only a re-read until KoD.
I finished Tales of the Far West -- the Scott Lynch story in particular is a gem -- and started Seven Princes by John R. Fultz.
I have three books on the go for September.Dark Inside by Jeyn Roberts
Moon Called by Patricia Briggs
The Weeping Empress by Sadie S. Forsythe
I finished Chasing Cold yesterday. It was an ok sci-fi, but there was too much awkward sex talk and orgies for my tastes :/Just started The Man in the High Castle by Philip K. Dick.
Also I had to stop reading Thunderer because it really wasn't my cup of tea, so I've been reading The Red Wolf Conspiracy instead. This also took some time to get into, but it's finally gotten good :)
I seem to be taking forever to read my books, keep getting side-tracked too. I'm now on The Shadow Rising, luckily an e-book as it's huge. I've got about 5 more books this month, I'll never fit them in.
Reading Invader by C.J. Cherryh after I finished the first book. Both books are a reread, since I have read the first trilogy before.
Kevin wrote: "Reading Invader by C.J. Cherryh after I finished the first book. Both books are a reread, since I have read the first trilogy before."This series is out in audio and I have been listening to one after the other. Am currently listening to Deliverer. This is a reread for me. Love them!
Right now I'm rereading The Black Prism, and then I'll be reading The Blinding Knife. So far I'm still loving the book in the reread, but the World Building really slows it down, especially since it's such an extensive and original world. I really gobbled it up the first time, but now it's repeating everything I already know. I'm really looking forward to starting The Blinding Knife.

I just finished Alif the Unseen. I loved it! I read it in one day because I could not put it down. Now I'm having a hard time deciding what to read next even though I have plenty of unread books in my library. I started Love in the Time of Cholera but couldn't get though the first 40 pages and now I've started The 13½ Lives of Captain Bluebear. Not sure if I like it yet, we'll see how it goes.
I left the C.J. Cherryh after I found a Memories of Ice with about 20 pages of the book was cut off 1 inch on the top and bottom along with the text not printed until the middle of the page. I bought the book. I love the book so far.
Helen wrote: "Excellent choice! I'm eagerly awaiting the last part."It was a good read :) Any idea when the third's gonna be out?
My stack for this month is science fiction, gothic, horror and historical. Hope to get into some full on fantasy next month with the anniversary edition of Sword of Shannara, that current Brent Weeks series and those Blake Charlton books. Oh, and Giant Thief, and the Hammer and the Blade.

No idea. Not soon enough for me though.

Doors of Stone is supposed to come out in May 2013. I'd say I'm waiting patiently but I'd be lying!
I think I'll have to do a reread just in time for May then. Wonder when Martin will get his done!
I just finished a re-read of Betrayaland read Sacrificein two days. I cried over half of Sacrifice. I must be too much of a softie.
I'm reading the Codex Alera series of Jim butcher and its really fantastic. I just finished wards of faerie by Terry brooks and its a real favourite. I just had to go back and re-read the elfstones of shannara on which it is based. I also finished the empire of Light trilogy by gary Gibson and its a real stunner.
Harsh wrote: "I'm reading the Codex Alera series of Jim butcher and its really fantastic. I just finished wards of faerie by Terry brooks and its a real favourite. I know this Romanesque epic fantasy started as a lark for Butcher but it was fantastic!
Just finished Seven Princes, which was weird and rich and strange (and I'm very much looking forward to the sequel, Seven Kings), and started Redshirts by John Scalzi, which I expect will be a very silly book indeed.
just finished The Blade Itself and was left feeling disappointed in it. The only character i liked was the ex champion swordsman who is now a cripple. There wasnt nearly enough of the main hero and all the action seemed to be contained to the last chapter. I will only follow this series if i stumble across any of the books in second hand shops. Disappointing.Im now reading The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch and its very enjoyable. A vast improvement on the Perky Pat short story.

I've taken a break from fantasy for a while, but of course I picked up a wonderfully fresh and gripping Canadian mystery - with a ghost in it! More Than Sorrow
