POLL CLOSED- Sept/Oct 2012 Group Read
I was going to nominate my book Red Island...but - will follow the rules. Cheryl Bradshaw's I Have a Secret I Have a Secret
I nominate Shattered Allegiance by Philip S Woods. If enjoyed, the reading can continue throughout the trilogy. http://shatteredallegiance.yolasite.com/

Hi Les, Live by Night will not be released until October 2nd and our group read begins on 9/15/12. Also, we just read a book by Lehane in June and we try not to read an author we've read recently.
Would you like to nominate something else?

I've been wanting to read this modern Sherlock Holmes story which has gotten very good reviews by Sherlock fans. Holmes+Watson+the Ripper killings. What could be better? Dust and Shadow: An Account of the Ripper Killings by Dr. John H. Watson
I'd like to nominate September Mourn September Mourn by Mary Daheim, because I'm a sucker for seasonal reading.

Watson!
We recently published The Expendable Man by Dorothy B. Hughes. An unrecognized classic of American noir.

Hi, Unfortunately, we do not accept nominations from publishers, publicists, or authors for our group reads.
However, we are always interested in new and exciting publications so please feel free to post in the Author's Corner folder or the In the Press, Blogs, and Sites folder.

I'm with Mungboy - I would love to read a Ross MacDonald novel! I've never read one, and I am beginning to feel that's a big hole in my mystery and thriller reading list.
Robin wrote: "I'm with Mungboy - I would love to read a Ross MacDonald novel! I've never read one, and I am beginning to feel that's a big hole in my mystery and thriller reading list."Ross MacDOnald was one of the best of all! Right up there with Hammett and Chandler.
Agreed, Les. I've read that Sue Grafton cites him as one of her main influences, and I'm a huge Grafton fan.I really want to go back and read the masters of the genre - I feel like there's a hole in my reading, having read no Ross MacDonald. That's why I'd love to read one with the group!
I always enjoy seeing the book nominations each month! I get so many great ideas for authors or titles I need to read, besides the titles we read as a group each month. Thanks all for making me a more diverse reader!
I vote for Karen Rose and Die for me, first in a trilogy. I'm new to this group so forgive me if I'm braking the rules! Looking to meet new friends if anyone with similar interests wants to add me. I love James Patterson Michael Connelly Sophie Hannah Mary Higgins Clarke and other similar authors. :-)
This looks interesting..I second this nom! Carol wrote: "I've been wanting to read this modern Sherlock Holmes story which has gotten very good reviews by Sherlock fans. Holmes+Watson+the Ripper killings. What could be better? Dust and Shadow: An Account..."
I have not seen Gary Ponzo's "Touch of Deceit" nominated. It might only be available for e-readers (amazon, barnes). Get one, you won't regret it.Gary Ponzo
I'm reading Dust and Shadow: An Account of the Ripper Killings by Dr. John H. Watson right now and am enjoying it.
Sorry, I accidentally nominated two! I guess the Straley book then?Though Dust and Shadow looks really good.
I'm throwing in a nomination for Rogue Island by Bruce DeSilva. It's a first novel and won the 2011 Edgar Award Winner for Best First Novel.Rogue Island

I listened to this and thought it was excellent. There were times when I was listening while raking leaves and just stopped mid rake to listen. It has a strong regional character (New England) but if you are familiar with the area it is a bonus. If you are not, it does not matter. Still a very good book.
The Huntress Moon by Alexandra Sokoloff sounds good, or The Ivory Grin by Ross MacDonald. Just please, NO Dan Brown. I'm so tired of him....

General rules for Group Reads
1) If your nomination wins - you will be the discussion moderator.
2) One (1) nomination only per person. Authors: no self-nominations, please.
3) Please do not repeat an author we have read in the last year. Check the bookshelves to see the authors we've read in the past year. http://www.goodreads.com/group/booksh...
4) For your nomination please include Title, Author and Link (use the "add book/author" link at top of comment box).
Since we are an international group, please check to make sure the book is readily available. Is it available in paperback? Used? Your local library? The last thing we want is to nominate a great book that no one can get!
Finally, a word about series - the joy or bane of a mystery reader’s life! Please consider whether the book you are nominating would be best read by someone who has read all the previous books in the series or can be enjoyed by someone new to the series too.
