Merging author - which name to pick

Got two author profiles for one notorious guy here:

They should get merged, but which name should we keep? My pick is "Marquis de Sade" since that's the most recognisable one, but couldn't quite work out what the policy was here.

There is a policy to go with the name they published under which I believe is the Marquis de Sade.

In the same way L.M. Montgomery is used over Lucy Maud, L.M. is the published name
