If you have, tell us what you think of Hemingway's portrayal of the seaside town.

Gio (giobannaschlitz) its funny, but its been a while since i've read the story (and sorry for not participating any sooner as I was away), but i don't remember the story being in italy. so i guess, for me, it didn't resemble italy at all. it is almost as if someone was writing about a place that he had never been, or at minimum, a place that he's seen often and assumed it exists everywhere else.

the heat is typically italian, but funnily enough, i've never seen rain there. only extreme heat. and i don't notice the cats as much as i do the stray dogs.

something for me doesn't jive about this story. for me, its almost as if he wanted to write about this woman's apparent lonliness but didn't care about location. which is bizarre because he is often so descriptive in such little words.

so i guess that's my short answer of saying no, i didn't sea a small italian seaside town. european yes, but italian, no
