Scott Gastineau grew up in Oklahoma and was enamored by the Old West as a young boy. It was not until later in life that the real details of life in the Old West reignited that fascination. He has lived in Arizona since graduating from Oklahoma State University, recently moving to the Prescott region with his wife. He loves to read, hike and run.

My mind comes up with the stories anyway, I might as well write them down.

I love the creating of this world where the character lives. Obviously, with historical western fiction there is quite a framework already there, but all the character's backgrounds, the events of the tale, the way the story unravels. I'm vicariously living it as it is typed out of my fingers and that's the fun part of it, the adventurous journey into the past.

Plus, I now have a good reason for bringing up stuff about the 1800s frontier with my family and friends. I love the research into the old west. I often branch off in all kinds of directions, and gain more ideas for stories.(less)

So, I get these litt…moreReally "scenes" for a parts of stories usually come to me when I'm out hiking on trails or learn about a place from the old west. So, I get these little clips that form in my head and the story starts to weave out from those. After that quite a bit of the story just takes on a life of it's own.

Traveling through the area, seeing ruins, learning the history first hand helped quite a bit also.(less)
