really liked it

Well. This is a delightful piece of fluff for fairy-tale loving youngsters. I really enjoyed Evie and her spunk and common sense. Between 3 and 4 stars for me, really, because in some ways the story was a bit obvious, and because I got so annoyed at Evie's friend's nickname. Wormy? Really? No wonder she doesn't think she loves him!

Also, Lucinda the fairy is supremely annoying, but a hoot at the same time.

The ogres, however, were interesting monsters. Why on earth would such creatures ever band together? And why on earth do they have the gift of persuasion? The unconscious magic bit knocked off a half star for me.

Finally, given the situation one of Evie's friends is in at the end of the story, I felt I needed to (a) reread Ella Enchanted, and (2)find the sequel forthwith. In other words, to me, this doesn't--quite--stand alone. But a fun and clever MG fantasy.
