really liked it
bookshelves: sci-fi, published-2017, young-adult, read-2019

Listen. I think we give authors we love and names we know a lot of faith, because I opened this book and it had a teen girl with a motorized skateboard and rainbow hair and tattoos and I DIDN'T IMMEDIATELY CLOSE IT AND ADD IT TO A 'OH HELL NO' LIST.

Seriously, my biggest two complaints of this book is that we need more of the teammates and less of the romance, and WHY WAS THE RAINBOW HAIR NECESSARY THIS ISN'T A TEEN FAN FIC.

Listen, I find VR fiction to toe a line that I'm never sure if I am going to like it or if it'll be too ridiculous for me. But this book does it well. I enjoy the actual game play of Warcross (though the rules don't quite make sense to me?)

And the twists at the end...I don't know.

Final verdict: Entertaining, easy read, get rid of the rainbow hair, and I'll continue to read Marie Lu books. I think 2019 might be the year I try to read all of her books.
