House of Leaves
Nov 16, 2019
If you want plot, if you want traditional scares, this is not for you. It's far more about experience, atmosphere, and how we reflect myth. It's about the internal, both literally and metaphorically. Some scenes *are* scary, because it invokes feelings alternatively of claustrophobia and agoraphobia. I had some issue with Johnny's constant sleeping around and drug use, (view spoiler)[and the three mentions of rape, one of them hidden in code, made me wildly uncomfortable (hide spoiler)] but it was not enough to stop reading. The ending didn't really have closure, but for once I'm kind of okay with that. It definitely makes you think.
