it was ok

This book was flat out boring and a disappointing end to the series. I realized that the series lost it's charm when I was mid way through the book and basically nothing had happened to further the overall story from the previous two books.

The book is written in a mix of first person from Diana's POV and will randomly jump to third person, gets annoying rather quickly.

The menagerie of forgettable characters gets in the way of the overall story. This book felt like Twilight for adults, smothering love, inexplicable children...wait no not inexplicable, random explanations about vampire/witch genetics that act as the perfect deus ex machina.

Listen, I enjoyed the first book because it was a fun filled story with some new spins on supernatural creatures, the second book was enjoyable as well because we got some character progression. This book basically went no where until the last 15% of the story where everything gets nearly tied up and happy endings for all.

Hilary I'm only on chapter 18, but your review hits the nail on the head so far. If it weren't the third of three, I would so quit this book. I keep reading these five star reviews and wondered if I was reading the same book. Ugh.

Ashley Williams Wow! Those were my thoughts exactly.

message 3: by Stefi (new) - added it

Stefi Yes! It felt rushed and totally not like the 1st and 2nd. And so many unanswered questions. That whole Gallowglass triangle was not necessary, and what, she's the most powerful witch of all, but can't fin Ben with some spell? please. Idk, I was so looking forward to this, and now I feel a bit underwhelmed

Shelley Bainter That settles it for me, I'm freeing myself from the joyless task of finishing this book.

Joey I am on the first book, trying to decide if I want to invest in this series. You just answered my question, thanks. I can't bear for characters I love to just die in the end. That is why I like fiction better than real life.

Sean prefect analysis.

Chantelle I agree the random switch to third person was frustraiting and it was a let down in the end. I felt like more about the daemons should have been explored. Heck, more insight into the future of the offspring might have been good. The ending felt very weak.

Melissa I really loved the first two books so much and found this book incredibly disappointing. I too have said that it made it all feel like Twilight for adults which is what I was really hoping would NOT happen.
