** spoiler alert ** I'm not a big fan of horror because, well, it scares me, but I started reading this because I had just read something in which Neil Gaiman was applauding HP Lovecraft and really if Neil Gaiman says he's good he must be good... right? It started out pleasantly creepy and then started really scaring me so I put it down to come back to during the day, when everything is less creepy. Now that I've finished it though, I'm a little ashamed of myself. I feel kind of like I did after watching the original "House on Haunted Hill." A little betrayed. It's like expecting to get punched in the stomach and then having the person pull the punch. It's a relief not to be scared out of my mind, but I'm kind of offended, like they thought I couldn't take it or something. Still, I'd recommend it for a quick entertaining read. The language is quite lovely. Lovecraft was definitely a master of the English language.
