**Received a copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.**
"Hollywood Dreams" is the first book that I've read by Mae Archer, and it won't be the last. I've read a lot of romance novels, and this book was different from the typical storyline that can be found in one. It kept me intrigued and on the edge of my seat. "Hollywood Dreams" is a story about actor Tom Calvert and costume designer Maree Reynard.
Tom is trying to get a once and a lifetime type of role, so he puts himself into character as a disabled war veteran named Beau Tennant. This is how Maree finds him. She's walking down the street, and sees "Beau" having trouble with his wheelchair. They instantly click. They have a camaraderie that is palpable, and their chemistry is hot! What worries Tom is that he has lied from the get-go to Maree. He doesn't know how she will take to the news of him not really being disabled and that he was simply acting out a part. He's upset with himself for starting this charade with her because he realizes Maree is different from the other women he has been with in his life.
"Beau" breaks up with Maree and leaves her heartbroken. Part of the reason why "Beau" broke up with Maree was because she doesn't want to date actors. She made that very clear to "Beau" when she told him about her relationship with her father, who also happens to be an actor. The one time Maree met Tom while she was going out with "Beau", Maree snubbed Tom.
Maree is in a state of mind where she's numb and anti-social for two months. Meanwhile, she gets an opportunity to be a costume designer for a new movie. While on the set, she meets Tom again. Tom wants a second chance with Maree as himself. He loves Maree. Maree misses "Beau", but she can't deny the feelings she's starting to have for Tom. Will his lie break them up for good, or can they have a second chance at love?
What I really enjoyed about "Hollywood Dreams" was not only was the love story interesting, but the other storylines meshed in perfectly. There was a crazy stalker, the secondary characters were great, family drama, etc. The only downside I had was I wish Tom was upfront to Maree from the get-go. Obviously, that would have taken away from a good bit of the story, but nevertheless, I will let that slide. Wonderfully written and endearing! Definitely check it out!
