What happens when people give up their rights over time in response to fear mongering? You get an exploration of this phenomena in Veracity. This feels like a YA book even though Harper Adams is a woman with an adolescent daughter by the name of Veracity. Harper spends most of the book being terrified and well she should. She's risen to the top of the department that decides if punishment is due others for uttering barred words. In a U.S. of the not so far away future all citizens are implanted with a monitor which if they remove will kill them. The state knows all. But Harper is recruited by the resistance and the action follows.
