really liked it
bookshelves: christian-fiction
Read from December 03 to 20, 2010

This isn't a book that I read twice and I wouldn't even want to read more of the same thing... but I'm glad I did finally get around to reading it (it's been sitting on my bookshelf for at least 6 years)
The Visitation has two story lines that weave perfectly together, both tracking different stages of a ex-pastors life. One stage tracks his development from boyhood to the early stages of his life and the other when the small town he lives in receives a visitor who seems to be claiming to be Jesus.
This isn't so much a beautiful novel as it is a scathing one, filled with harsh realities and confronting potentialities.
What made this book for me was the characters... were it not for the genuine, flawed personalities littered through the book it would have been a struggle. But at it's end I was left with a feeling of hope and a renewed conviction of the importance of the word of God.
