it was amazing

This book will quietly stun you. It's a little dated in terms of the way Dinesen discusses her relationship with the Kenyan natives, but making allowances for that, what an evocative, rich love letter to one of the great regions of the world. Her descriptions of Africa captivated me from the first chapter, and her pioneer spirit and love of adventure - treated in an almost offhand manner throughout - means you never know which direction each page will take. Dinesen blows chick lit out of the water with both barrels.
