This book was brilliant.

The characters are all masterfully delineated. The story flows organically from it's start in the distant valley where Tai is burying the bodies of a battle long ended. The plot has wonderful twists and turns, and also has stand out moments between characters.

I really enjoyed the pace of the story until the last 30-40 pages. Here Kay shows the passage of time in a manner markedly inconsistent with the rest of the book. I thought this, and the Epilogue that followed, was somewhat jarring. To be clear; I liked the ending, just not the manner in which it was delivered.
