I was given this book as a diversion while hospitalized. It served that purpose but little else. While the character Odd Thomas initially shows some promise, he is never fully developed. The author adds numerous comments in the first person narrative regarding events which have no relevance to this story. I realize this is the third in a series, but the interjections only allude to the first books and add nothing to either the character or the plot of this book. While the plot begins interestingly enough, it quickly degrades to an entirely predictable and formulaic story. Though the author attempts to leave the identity of the antagonist a mystery, he is easily identified early in the novel. With a few twists this could have been a reasonable short story, as a novel it drags and is expanded not with interesting character development or plot twists, but rather with unnecessary irrelevant interjections and excessively wordy descriptions which serve no purpose other than to try to give the appearance of literature to a mass media author churning out another “best seller”. Mindless entertainment to pass the time.
