it was amazing
bookshelves: african-american, boys, family-drama, real-life, historical

Magoon does a great job of getting the reader to FEEL the differences between the passive-resistance movement and the will to act that fueled the Black Panther Party. Sam is a very real protagonist; the action feels immediate even though it is set in 1968. The story stands beautifully on its own but is wonderfully complemented by the historical notes at the end.
