Wells does a masterful job of recounting the history of the world, albeit with a western bent. However, given this was written in 1922, it is a remarkable feat. While the end of the book had a heavy western bent, much like Marr's A History of the World, this is balanced by the vivid descriptions of the ancient world.

Plus, at the end of the book he nicely dissects the then ongoing situation in Europe and correctly predicts they'll be another Great War if corrective actions aren't taken. That's the sign of someone who truly understands the common threads through history and what situations inevitably lead to war or revolution. Ultimately, a rather easy read from a great storyteller and a great primer on aspects of world history that may have been forgotten after grade school.
