This is another of the boy who discovers he's magical and ends up in a special school type books, but it's different enough that you don't feel you're simply reading not-Harry-Potter.

Max McDaniels has led a fairly standard life, at least up until his mother disappeared. But while out with his father for an annual Museum visit, in honor of his missing mother's birthday, things take a turn for the truly strange. An odd, and scary man was staring at him on the train. The same man was searching for him in the Museum. He discovered a tapestry that came to life before his eyes, only to stumble from the room minutes later to be told he had been missing for two hours. Oh, and by the way, that room doesn't exist.

From there, things only grow stranger. There's the inexplicable and odd letter he received. A woman turns up at his house, and attacks him. A man shows up at his house to test him for the Academy mentioned in said odd letter. Max McDaniel's life has changed for good.

Rowan Academy suits him well, though his time there is anything but easy, and full of endless questions.

Definitely a series I'm interested to follow to conclusion.
