Beautiful use of language and generously crafted characters. Quite moving and hilarious when the characters finally touch each other's lives. However the wedding of French and Japanese aesthetic often left me out to dry. I found the lengthy references to philosophy snobbish and indulgent, and The tragic ending more vacuous and contrived than enriching.
