Despite a weakly plotted closing chapter, Ellis brings the seemingly loosely-connected strands of the Planetary series together in a surprising way while also demonstrating much more heart and less cynicism than he does in many of his other projects. Ellis is often praised more for his bizarre ideas than for his actual storytelling abilities, but when read as a whole, Planetary reveals itself to be much more meticulously plotted than it seems at first. Arguably Ellis' masterpiece.
