Interesting concept... half hard-boiled detective novel, half fantasy. I like Harry Dresden, confident with just a bit of self-doubt. The protagonist tells us up front he's named for three magicians (I'm assuming Harry Houdini, Harry Blackstone, and David Copperfield), but I can't help believing there may be a bit of homage to that other wizard named Harry! I can almost envision Rowling's Harry as an adult auror, fighting crime in both the Muggle and wizarding worlds, although Dresden is so much more cynical than Potter, even at his teen angst worst!
