Melina is a go between for various supernatural creatures. When a group of Ninjas steal an envelope she is delivering Melina's search to recover it brings her to a Taoist temple in Old Sacramento.

She learns that the temple is home to a group of Chinese vampires who are being used to turn the local gangs against one another. When none of the supernatural groups will get involved Melina finally decides that she has to do something to stop them.

Melina makes serious mistakes along the way but she learns that she has to take responsibility for her life and also that she has to learn to trust other people.

I enjoyed this book. Not only is it the first one that I can remember reading that uses Chinese vampires but also because it was interesting to see a heroine who didn't start off as a fully trained confident kick-ass personality. I'm looking foward to the next book in the series.
