A memoir in pictures. It's an amazing and tragic story (his father basically gave him cancer, and then his mother denied him treatment; he lost the ability to speak because of it), but David Small tells it eloquently and with perspective. His drawings are quite stunning, and took me back to childhood feelings and emotions, even though my experiences were nowhere near as horrible as his. And learning about his childhood makes you appreciate the cheerful fun of GEORGE WASHINGTON'S COWS even more.
