it was amazing
Recommended for: language arts teachers

Hillocks, in perhaps his most accessible work, argues that writing instruction and learning might best begin with narration. Students have stories to tell and, through the telling of those stories, students can learn about the craft of writing. In other words, students can readily generate content when engaging in writing narrative.
It is not just about what students can generate when they write narrative. Through narrative students can learn about organization and structure as well as craft elements.
Though this is not a difficult read, it is still a challenging read, one that might make teachers re-think their own work as well as that of their students.
