it was amazing
bookshelves: 2015

This book doesn't fit into my normal categories of reading, but I am ever so glad I read it. Truthfully, Kingsolver has always intimidated me. Now that I've read Flight Behavior, I can't imagine why I would have felt that way. Her writing is approachable but smart and complex.

This book is the perfect blend of science and story. It's the perfect balance between describing place and character. It's powerful message of global warming / ecological science is layered into a universal theme of growing up and moving on.

Some favorite quotes, "My son has the personality of a border collie." And, "Dellarobia's mind had pretty well finished beating itself senseless, and now went empty of normal thoughts." (been there) "My house looks like the toxic waste dump of the free world." And finally, "Little humps of moss that swelled along a scar in the asphalt like drops of green blood."
