Another great offering from Ades Media, the newly started Swedish publisher of Italian comics series Dylan Dog.

This is a full-length album of almost 100 pages, with a story of an old nursing home, where the inhabitants seemingly have lived for hundreds of years, something that Dylan Dog is sent to investigate. The ending of the story is rather vague as to the truth about it all, which works for me, as the revelation of the underlying “truths” behind horror stories, be it scientifically plausible ones or a free fantasies, are usually a letdown.

The art feels very Mediterranean, in a good sense, reminiscent of Jordi Bernet, Alberto Breccia and even sometimes the late, great master Hugo Pratt. Nicola Mari has a good sense of composition but also of the transition between images making everything flow effortlessly. He’s especially adept at the play of black and white, creating pages and spreads that ha a sense of balance as well as intensity.

Worth the price alone is the new cover done by the very talented Swedish artist Elin Jonsson. It's really beautiful and makes you wish that she would be allowed to draw a full script of Dylan Dog sometime.
