it was amazing

I have put off reviewing this book. Not because I didn't like it, but because I needed to let the themes and ideas stew longer because I read this so quickly.

I liked this book, not as much as some of Brandon's other writings, but I enjoyed the journey and this new magic system.

The magic is based on color. This provided a lot of fodder for Brandon to use in world building - which was also excellent in this book.

What I didn't appreciate as much was all the plot twisting and "surprises". This can be fun in a mystery novel, but I wasn't expecting it here. I also wanted the two women to have a more active role in the climax than they did. Finally, I would like Brandon to space out his climaxes just a bit more. It felt like a tidal wave of revelations and plot conclusions all happened within just a short period.

That all being said, the characters were enjoyable (especially the sarcastic gods), the world-building was superb, the conflicts felt real, and the story well-written.
