Ok, Lois McMaster Bujold is not a person I know in real life. But she recommended this series on a thread at Tor.com and OF COURSE I grabbed it. And now that I've finished reading all four books I'm going to go back to the beginning and re-read them all, in order, again right away. The last series i did that with was _A Song Of Ice And Fire_. The first series I did that with was _Harry Potter_. Oh, no. Wait. I also did that with the _Vorkosigan Saga_, except that I still haven't read the last two books in that series because I don't want to because I know what happens. Anyway....

I'm not going to review what happens in this book because this series is a cumulative experience. Each book stands on its own, but they take place in a world that is concurrent. Much like those other series I mentioned above, these books are a TRUE series in that each story is an episode in the lives of these characters AND the society around them. So if I review this book solely on its elements I will give away events that will spoil the progression for people and I don't want to do that.

I will say that this book is probably 4.5 stars instead of the 5 that I gave the other three books. Without too much detail I'll say that the events of this book were necessary and good and entertaining but lacked the charm that the others have because of their different focus. Still, I loved it more than I've loved a lot of stuff. So please read it.

Amy Kannel I did not realize this was a middle grade series! Will move it up on my list. Always looking for good stories to put in my 11yo voracious reader's hands.

Katherine Coble Amy, I hope he adores it.
